Hi there! I am 3.5 months out have lost 70 pounds!! Woo hoo! I went to the Dr and he says I am blowing all his sleeve patients out of the Water with the amount lost. He was very pleased. Anyhow, my question is this, I am having a rough time with dairy.

I tried to eat just a few small spoonfuls of ice cream and became so sick! Violently sick. Then I tried a very small amount of flan. A Mexican dessert a month later and had severe stomach pains again and dirreah.

Does anyone else have any dairy issues?

Thanks so much.

Do you get sick when you drink milk? If not, it's the heavy milk fat content and sugar content doing it, and not the actual milk. I developed a slight lactose intolerance, but could eat yogurt, and eat some cheeses, but drinking milk gave me gas.

Some VSG patients experience dumping with high milk fat, high sugar foods, and you might be one of them. The only time I had major issues was when I was having gallbladder attacks and it was the fat content in heavy, rich, creamy sauces, and some foods like lobster, avocados.

I can't drink milk at all but I can eat cheese and yogurt. I can eat a little bit of ice cream but more than that I have diarrhea pretty quickly.

It's pretty common for sleeve patients to become lactose intolerant. You will just have to experiment to see what works and what doesn't.

Tiffy is right. I get really sick on high fat high sugar foods. It's dumping syndrome, according to Dr. Aceves, too much sugar and fat goes into our systems too quickly because our stomachs are so small. It's not only diarrhea. I get nauseous and sweaty and feel really sick.

I posted this on your other thread:

Wow, congrats on your loss!! I'm not exactly sure, but those are both high in sugar, are you having reactions to other sweets? I have never been a huge fan of dairy and stick to skim milk myself. Good luck in finding an answer, just wanted to say Great job! :)
