Does your surgeon make you bring a copy of your ins. plan?

Recommended Posts

I just switched from a band doctor to a sleeve doctor. At the band dr. office they were going to get all the insurance info and tell me what I needed to do. At the new place, I'm supposed to bring them a copy of the plan and they won't even see me without it. The form says "If you do not have this information your appt. will be re-scheduled."

Can't they obtain coverage information with my ins. card? I know at the dentist or any other dr. they always tell me what my insurance covers not the other way around. Is it that they are just too busy to be bothered with this extra step or what?

Well i called to clarify what I was supposed to bring and it turns out I can just print the clinical policy bulletin off the insurance website. A little hassle but not as bad as having to get the whole policy and lug it with me. I still don't know why they can't just confirm this info themselves like other offices. But there were about 60 people at the seminar so I guess this surgeon is a busy guy.

I'm glad you were able to get some clarifications. I would print off the exclusions section as well just to be on the safe side.

I don't know what or where to find the exclusions section. I'm bringing the clinical policy bulletin and if they something else they can ask for it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
