...(regular not diet)...

I have to admit, that I would not do.

Just be careful, YES it MIGHT trigger sugar cravings - IF your inclined to them. YES, carbonation will give you gas - which you will most likely just burp back up harmlessly. YES, caffeine is a diuretic which may cause a net LOSS of fluids as it flushes more liquid OUT then you take IN - but a little bit won't make you dehydrated.

So folks, it's the old mantra - EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. A can of pop a week isn't going to hurt, a few cans a DAY just might.

BTW, I didn't see a warning about sodas REAL problem. The typical soda is acidic and constant intake of acidic drinks can erode your tooth enamel. Again, moderation and brushing your teeth can mitigate that.

So if you like it, won't get the sugar heebie jeebies from it and the carbonation doesn't hurt your tummy then enjoy a can or glass and go for it.

I have to admit, that I would not do.

I can't stand the taste of anything "diet" so I'd rather drink a little bit of the real thing than a whole "diet". This is why I'm pretty much on nothing but Water the rest of the time. I quit trying to find something "sugar free" that didn't taste of hind-end to me several months ago.

LOL...some of the sugar-free stuff does suck very badly. And I should have mentioned, I also wouldn't have drunk soda with sugar in it pre-op either...more a personal preference thing. But yeah, the carbonation isn't sitting well in the sleeve yet anyhow, so it's all hypothetical at this point. :D

OK I forgot to mention one thing, I do not drink diet or regular sodas anymore, BUT I am totally into iced coffee now lol. I drink the caramel iced coffees from McD's. I used to drink the caramel light fraps from Starbucks but they are soooo expensive ($4.75). I just discovered the iced coffees about 2 weeks ago and I have to say LOVIN them lol.

I think I'm going to give it up again at least until I get to the maintenance phase. After I posted this I got to thinking, and I haven't lost ANY weight in the last two weeks. I think the diet coke might be the beginnings of a slippery slope back into old habits for me. Don't get me wrong...I still don't eat a whole bunch or anything like that, but I've been more lax for sure. Had a cookie the other day. Haven't been monitoring Protein at all, etc, etc. I think I needed a mental health break from the all sleeve all the time channel, and I've had that, and I'm ready to get back on plan. I REALLY appreciate all of your input, and I'm definitely looking forward to maintenance when I can treat myself. Just don't think I'm quite there yet. :decision:

I've already fiven up soda on the pre-op diet. I was drinking almost a whole 2-liter of reg. Coke a day before. I've lost 7 lbs. just by cutting that and candy out. So I will probably just stay quit. It's not something I can't do without. I'm just as happy with tea or iced coffee. But if they say to give up caffeine then that's another story!

I was told by my surgeon that carbonated beverages can cause bloating which can swell the stomach, cause acid reflux, deteriorate the stomach lining over time, can cause ulcers over time, and gas is certain. I was a Diet Cherry Pepsi-holic so that sucked for me. As far as the caffeine goes the day after my surgery I was given a 6 oz cup of unsweetened tea on my meal tray with a pack of Splenda and a Boost. I tried it out but it tasted like crap. I'm Southern I need my sweet tea so if I can't have it like I want it then I prefer to not have it at all. I've been drinking Vitamin Water Zero and the new Mio's where you squirt it into the drink. They are the two things I tolerate the best and they are no carbon, no caffeine, low sodium, and still taste sweet and good to me. I just prefer not to risk it being how hard this whole process has been on me.

I took one sip of Hansen's sugar free black raspberry soda about 3 weeks after surgery. It was if I had swallowed acid, it went down painfully and my stomach felt like it was going to explode. I'm not going to try soda again for quite some time.

Hi, I quit the day before my surgery last Aug. I have had it a few sips here and there it makes burp a lot but beyond that no problem but also no interest.

Have you tried Crystal Light tea? I love sweet tea too and I don't usually like artificial sweeteners but the CL tea is not bad. I haven't tried the Mio things yet. I will.

My problem is Mineral Water. Not soda...I love my Pelligrino and Apollinaris! =( I also love Champagne more than any other cocktail. I'm too scared to try any of it yet. But maybe I'll test a sip soon.

I really like orangina's from trader joes, they have some carbonation and I do just fine with them. I'm just scared to go back to soda.

I really like Powerade Zero. I've been drinking that to replace the sodas. Before it started getting hot where I am (90 yesterday) I loved drinking green tea, but I don't like cold tea, and hot tea is not for hot weather in my humble opinion.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
