What do think my chances are

Recommended Posts

I started with a lap band program. I have one month-supervised diet done with their nutritionist. I was not charged for this visit. They said it was included in the "whole package." Now I'm switching to a sleeve dr. What do you think my chances are of getting my one-month diet record from the prior surgeon's office? I haven't told them yet I'm switching. Are they under some legal obligation to give me my records? it would be nice to shave one month off my diet.

I believe that the medical records (or a copy there of) belong to you regardless if you switch doctors. It can't hurt to call and ask; plus you have to tell them sooner or later :)

You can actually have your new doctor request a copy of your medical records with your signature on the medical release form. It's also a HIPAA violation if they refuse to give you your complete medical record.

So, either you can go down there and request a copy of your records, or have your new surgeon request them through their office procedures.

As Tiff says, by law they are required to give them to you if you request them ... BUT, they are also allowed to charge an "administrative" fee for the paperwork, manpower, and supplies. So, be prepared to pay. Around here, it is about $15 per page.

OK cool. Thanks. I really don't feel too bad about it. If that doctor did sleeves I would stay with him but he doesn't so I'm forced to go elsewhere. Can't blame me for deciding on a different procedure.

I did the same thing. The office I worked with was actually very kind and totally understood. I hope you have the same experience!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
