How is it my body fat % has increased????

Recommended Posts

I bought some of the fancy scales that you can set up a user account and it will show your weight, body mass, body fat %, and Water %. I was going through my history this morning (16 days) and noticed that my body fat % is actually higher now than the first day of weigh in. How is that possible? Does it mean I'm losing muscle instead of fat right now? Also, does anybody know a proper Water level, I'm averaging about 28%?

Thanks

I have had one for years... and it gives different results every time I weigh in. I wouldn't get too excited.

Water weight sounds low to me... if I am above 45% on the scale, I have clear pee. If I get too far below that, I start yellowing up and feeling dehydrated. Just my experience though.

I don't put much stock into a scale that "weighs" body fat. Those scales can not take bone density or skin weight into account, and I agree with the above poster that it can change every day.

Early out, we're dropping a lot of Water weight. So, things are going to change. If the scale is correct, 28% does sound low, but again the truth in those scales can be skewed. A better gauge on hydration is color of urine, dry/moist skin, etc etc.

My scale is not as fancy as yours as it only shows me fat percentage. I have lost 36 lbs but the scale shows only a 2% fat decrease. I assure you that I have not lost nearly 29 lbs of muscle or bone mass since my belly fat is almost gone. The scale has to be in error.

I guess I need to try and increase my Water intake another 20 ounces or so and see what happens.....and disregard the rest. I'm really trying not to obsess about the details, but it's not easy. Thanks for the help :)
