Did you all work out during your pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I'm not talking about hard core working out, but the occasional treadmill, elliptical, free weights etc. I've been religiously going to the gym 6x/week for the past 3 weeks and I feel great. My energy is high, I sleep better etc.

I did not ask my doctor this question last visit, mainly because I didn't think about it. I know I will be eating less calories than normal, but for the past month I've already restricted my calories to about 1200/day. I know with just 3 Protein shakes a day and the occasional broth/jello calories, I will be consuming less. I don't think it'll hurt me, I will limit myself but I would like to lose as much as I can in the 2 week pre-op diet and going to the gym will keep me busy for a good 2 hours out the day (includes driving time) and keeps my energy up

so did anyone do it and feel "ok"?

I kept my same workout which is about 3-4 miles of walking each day and I also play sports 2 days a week. I felt totally fine, just make sure you drink plenty of Water and of course listen to your body and stop if you need to. I totally needed to fill the time with lots of activities to keep my mind off food during my 2 week pre-op diet. You'd be surprised how little your body really needs to function, at least I am after all those years of forking in all the calories.

I had started my own diet on 01/03/2011 and I was doing 30 minutes 3 days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) and I would walk for 10-15 minutes on treadmill, 5-10 minutes on bike, and 5 minutes on the nu-step but I didn't exceed 30 minutes. I had my surgery 02/22/11 so when I went to be weighed in I had lost 20 pounds just by doing what I did for that short period of time. It made me feel better and my nutritionist said I did good by doing that because it helped for the surgery (liver shreakage).

I've been working out with a trainer 3x a week and doing zumba the other two weekdays. I have been on my pre-op liquid diet for a week now and even with all the Protein I'm getting pretty weak. I have 7 days til my surgery so I'm just going to stick to my cardio for the rest of the time and not worry with the weights. I'm trying 3 miles in the morning on Walk Away the Pounds and then in the evenings I plan to walk around the neighborhood or do some Wii Fit while everyone else eats supper.

My surgeon told me that I had to be doing 45 minutes most days of the week during my pre-op period. I have been avoiding it like the plague, but I finally started this week with about 20 minutes 3x per week of walking and exercise videos. My goal is to build up to five days per week for 45 minutes by the time I have surgery next month. I think it's doable if I add 1 day and 5 minutes to my routine every week for the next 6 weeks.

I am sort of the odd man out here. Because I am borderline BMI with no co-mo's, I have to be careful not to go under the required BMI until surgery. So I can't lose weight, but also don't want to gain. I am trying to maintain right now. It was suggested to me [can't say by whom, just yet] that although my DR requires a 2 week low carb Atkins style diet and light exercise, I should instead do 3 days mushies, 1 day clear liquid pre op.

So I have not been dieting or exercising. Sounds fab right? Not really. I feel slow, tired, fat, bloated and just plain yucky. I wasn't exercising wildly before I started my WLS journey but I was enjoying a nightly walk with my family. Even without that little bit of exercise I feel so crappy. I hope to start walking again 2 weeks prior to surgery to get my blooding flowing, lungs open up and get my heart working properly.

I believe if the exercise makes you feel better (more energy, healthier) then go for it!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
