Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

going overseas for surgery..can you all recommend what food items(protein shakes, drinks, snacks)I should take with me pleeeez!

Recommended Posts

Hi again, decided to go overseas for surgery! Will be gone for about 2-3 months and was wondering if anyone could offer me tips on what post-op foods, shakes, liquids you recommend to take with me. I am sure that there will be food stuff where I am going because of the amount of people having the lap-band and sleeve procedure done there. BUT, it is overseas and they do not have access to the world of quality products we have here in the U.S.A...please let me know what tastes good and what goes down well to take especially for the liquid and mushy part of the post-op diet. Bless you all and thank you in advance.

Where are you going to have the surgery done? Living (and having been sleeved) in Sweden I can only speak for this country specifically but I can assure you that we have a fairly big selection of Protein products. You can get them in normal grocery stores, pharmacies and health stores, so not a problem really. For the mushie stage I was adviced to eat things like cottage cheese, scrambled eggs etc so all things found in the stores. :)

Best wishes and good luck with your surgery!

Ditto with NinaX - I live in Spain and have a wealth of products here, plus access to lots in the UK as well......so I would say it really depends on which country you're going to as to how much you need to consider taking with you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
