I am approx 5wks post op. I have only lost 26lbs, is this normal? I have seen other people have lost approx 40lbs :( , I feel like a fat looser. Not even surgery can help me loose weight. It really made me depressed. I feel like a whiny little brat but it's house I feel. I need some words of encouragement please. Seriously, how much did everyone loose?

You are doing just fine ... your body is your body ... everyone is different. You've lost over 5 pounds a week. Bet you couldn't do that BEFORE surgery. Just take each day at a time ... Celebrate each pound. Follow your plan and your weight will go down!

What mini-me said.

You ARE a loser - of WEIGHT. It's great what you've done so far and a WHOLE LOT better than GAINING 26 pounds.

You are doing great!! 26 lbs in 5 wks is pretty imppressive!! There may be ppl that's lost more but theres also ppl who's lost less. We all start off at different bmi's. Look at other improvements to measure your success like the changes in the way your clothes fit. You are going to succeed at your own pace, so try not to stress.

I had surgery on the same day as you and have lost 7kgs (15.4lbs) and am happy as a clam about it. If I can lose a kg a week (2.2lbs) every week, then a few months will pass by and I'll find myself at my goal weight. You'll get there too - we just have to be patient, do the right things and our wonderful wee tummies will do the rest. biggrin.gif

Hey JaspersGirl,

I don't think you are a slow loser... I thnk you are doing really well! 26lb in 5 weeks is bloody amazing!

Try not to label yourself 'fast' or 'slow' cos we are all different. I know I did just that for a while and it drove me nuts!!

Now, I'm just good ole Coops and I keep doing what I am doing until I get the results I want!

Keep up the good work! =]

Usually people with higher bmi lose quicker. I started with a high bmi and I lost well over 65 pounds in 3 months. When I get smaller my weight loss will be less. I say a victory is when the scales moves weather it is 1 or 5 pounds at a time..You are doing really good keep up the good work and maintain a positive attitude..

My boobs are shrinking FASTER than my tummy, sob sad.gif

This reminded me of a dream I had before my surgery. I dreamt that I had lost a lot of weight but when I looked in the mirror it was all from my chest. I mean I was flat as a board. My DH came in the room with his shirt off to compare and his man boobs were a lot bigger than mine! What a nightmare!

I think you're doing great. I am at 5 weeks and have only lost 30 pounds and I am pretty sure I weigh more than you ( I was 353 on surgery date). There are a lot of people who had surgery after me and weighed less than me and have still managed to lose more weight than me! It is kind of a bummer, believe me, I know that! But we just have to look at it as our own personal journey and it's going to be unique. Also keep in mind that there are just as many people who are probably losing slower than you. Just be thankful you are losing weight and try not to compare your loss to others.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
