Since surgery I have dealt with pain in my chest, the PA (he works with my surgeon) I saw figured it was heartburn. So I was switched to Nexium and told to add in Zantac if it didn't help. For the first week the pain wasnt so bad, I had the occasional sharp pain. Then on Saturday the pain started to increase, it got worse Sunday, then Monday even worse.

Monday I are a gogurt and it hurt, I drank Water, it hurt. Everything did. Hubby got worried, came home and sent me to the ER. Because the pain is in the middle of my chest and radiates to the left under the left breast, they did an ekg and chest xray. Then I sat in pain in the waiting room for 4 hours.

Once I was finally called back, labs were done and looked funky. Surgeons came to check on me and ordered a ct. Took me hours and lots of pain to drink the contrast but I got it down. At 3am I was admitted to the hospital and receiving pain meds around the clock. I needed lots of fluids and potassium again, started receiving nausea meds and heartburn meds by iv as well.

My labs are still of so they are monitoring things and may need more tests. I had a scope done yesterday and sure enough I have a stricture and a hiatal hernia. They stretched the part of the sleeve and will watch the hernia, will start seeing gi to make sure I don't need another scope . One doctor suggested that I may consider converting to rny. No thanks! My throat is super sore from the scope too.

Still getting meds quite a bit and back on Clear liquids. If I tolerate it better, they will advance my diet sand once I can handle that I can go home.

At least now I don't feel like a big baby.

So if anyone is feeling like something is wrong, trust your body and get checked out.

why would they suggest a conversion so soon? Awful early for that. I know they can fix Hernia's and treat strictures right?

Feel better soon.

Well none of that sounds any fun! Sorry to hear you are dealing with all of that. What exactly is a stricture? Is that a blockage? Is that why they stretched your sleeve? Are they going to go in and fix the hernia? Good luck to you, you have my best wishes.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you are in the hospital...I so glad your husband took you to the ER. That is scary and I'm so glad they are figuring out what is going on.

I might be wrong, but I do believe that strictures are actually MUCH more common with RNY than they are with the sleeve. I'm surprised they were wanting to convert.

I am so sorry that you are going through this, and I hope you recover quickly and are up and running around soon. Hugs!

fatBgone-a stricture is basically an area that gets too narrow, so anything trying to get into my sleeve was getting stuck and causing pain.

Strictures are more common with rny from what I've seen at my support group, the reason this doctor I saw suggested it was to deal with the heartburn. He said ryn has less issues with acid production. Im anxious to see my surgeon once I get discharged to see what he wants. I have no intentions of converting. I would rather just suck with taking the nexium and zantac.

It is a narrowing or closing up of a passage, in this case the stomach or esophagus, it can also occour in blood vessels but is usually called stenosis there. It can be a naturally occurring band or the result of an operation and the tube attaches to itself and narrows.

I am sorry you've had problems but it's good that you got it checked out. The hiatal hernia is most likely causing a lot of your problems with acid that is why most surgeons repair at the same time they do the sleeve. I don't think it's likely that you suddenly got the hernia post op. You may have had it pre-op. As high as 85% of overweight ppl have hiatal hernias. Now the narrowing is a post op complication, but i don't think it's real common for the sleeve. It's strange to me they are already talking revision to rny but not a hernia repair. Good luck and feel better!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
