Right or wrong choices???

Recommended Posts

I don't think that the SF reduced fat or fat free is a bad choice. I purchased a SF 1/2 the fat Neapolitan flavor by Edy's to mix in a little Protein Powder. First of all it is the type you should be eating from here on out with a healthier way of eating and it has some Protein plus it is great to add some protein to. So, considering that.... it isn't a bad idea at all by me :-)

I will admit to some reservations in buying ice cream of any type so soon post-op. While we all had this surgery to help us lose weight, it is still only one part of the overall commitment we must make to lose and keep the weight off. Changing our diets and stressing healthy choices is important to our long-term success. Just my thoughts.

Is it a great choice? No. Is it the worst choice? No

In those first few weeks, getting anything down is hard. So, if the SF Icecream helps you get Protein in, go for it. Just be sure to count your Protein, calories and carbs and don't overdue it. You shouldn't be eating the entire container each day. Watch your portion sizes - it's a slider so you won't get a full feeling.

I'm not fond of ice cream. If I were an ice cream fan, I would have never bought any as I am trying to stay away from trigger foods. But I needed something I could mix the Protein power in as I was having issues getting Protein. So I bought a low fat sugar free soft serve quart of vanilla ice cream to use for my Protein Powder. I ended up throwing about 2/3's of it away. But for the 1/3 I got down, it helped me to get some much needed protein.

I think for a lot of choices like this you have to know yourself. If you would end up wanting to move on into even more ice cream, richer ice cream, if it's a trigger food, I would avoid these kinds of choices. For instance, even if I some day find protein enriched taco chips, I will have to pass. Sadly, that would be a very bad choice for me.

(You see, already I'm dreaming of those wonderful salty crunchy chips.....bad, bad, me...)

Sounds like you've totally thought it through. For me, it would be the opposite :-) For that reason, I've had chips once or twice since being sleeved, but no ice cream! lol. One person's poison is another's pleasure!!

I too ate small amounts of ice cream a week out of surgery and living on liquids, posted it , and got verbally beat up on here..well guess what I lived! lol.. Nobody knows your body or what it can handle like you do, so you do what you have to do to get your Proteins in. At this point we All know what's good and bad as far as food goes. We all had the surgery to loose weight. And we will lose weight even if we eat ice cream. Really, how much do you think we can eat with 80% of our stomach gone? The first few weeks are tough, your always hungry living on liquids.I didn't like the Protein at all, I found myself eating a few spoon fulls of creamy Peanut Butter to sustain me and get in some protein. Once your able to eat some solids, like a Protein Bar or red meat you won't be hungry for ice cream or anything else as often, so don't feel guilty for eating ice ream while on soft foods or liquids. Good luck in your loosing! hungry.gif

I don't think it is a problem at all. I kind of wish I had thought of it when I was in that phase. I got so sick of having the same thing all the time! I wish you a speedy recovery!

I don`t think is a problem. I rather taste from something than crave after it all my life and end up married with the fridge...

It is your choose, try to stay on what doctor says but don`t do 100% like that.

I know myself, if somebody says "don`t do that" I will do it more than that.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
