Saved By The Sleeve 22 Posted April 5, 2011 JUST WONDERING HOW LONG DID OTHERS WAIT BEFORE BEGINNING TO DO CARDIO AND STRENGTH TRAINING??? MY POST OP INSTRUCTIONS SAY TO WAIT 6 WEEKS. I AM SO AFRAID OF NOT BEING ABLE TO LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT EXERCISING. MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT WORKING OUT AND WALKING HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING FOR "ME", ONLY CARDIO AND STRENGTH TRAINING SUCH AS (TAEBO) AND TOTAL GYM WORKOUTS. Rev Me Up! 75 Posted April 5, 2011 Make sure to follow Dr's instructions!! You have had abdominal surgery and you don't want to put any undue stress on your core. My doc said only walking for the first several weeks. Weights / pilates, etc after 6 to 8 weeks. You can lose weight without exercise. Of course, you want to exercise to keep your body healthy. just don't jump the gun and start too soon. You are still recovering from major surgery. Shanny 70 Posted April 5, 2011 My doctor told me I could start walking within a week, but no lifting or straining for 4 weeks. I started really exercising at one month post op.
Saved By The Sleeve 22 Posted April 5, 2011 Thanks a lot everybody :-) It seems like most of you waited at least one month, which isn't much longer. Guess I will start to do a Walk Away the Pounds dvd or something along those lines until that time.
Saved By The Sleeve 22 Posted April 5, 2011 Walked a lot immediately, weight training after 6 weeks and I lost a lot of muscle mass in that time. That is what I was thinking that some of us would lose a lot of muscle mass without the strength and toning workouts. You are doing soooooo GREAT though!! :-)
sunnyd 32 Posted April 10, 2011 My surgeon gave me the ok to get on the elliptical at 3 weeks out but no heavy lifting until 6 weeks or so. Of course she also says walk, walk, walk!
