A little dizzy and nausea

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I started my pre op diet on Saturday and both yesterday and today I woke up with a little bit of nausea and dizziness. I'm guessing that I'm not taking in enough Protein maybe? How many grams of Protein did anyone who did the pre op diet strive for on a daily basis?

Thanks in advance.

I was to get between 70-80 grams. The shakes I drank were either Atkins or Slim Fast Low Carb, which they have 20 g. each. Granted I had to have 4 a day but it helped me with always being able to "eat" something.

How much are you getting now?

Well Saturday I got in 57g and yesterday 61g. It's a low carb, high Protein so I've been doing a shake, then a lean cut of meat then maybe a bar and then a shake again. I guess I should squeeze in one more shake in the day.

Jellis about the meat & the bar, I had to cut all that stuff. I had to be all liquids. I did the shakes, some Soups and sugar free Jello & sugar free popsicles.

You are going to be a little messed up for the first week. It is OK. I didn't do much of the meat thing because I couldn't calculate the carbs easily.

Bar, shake, Bar, shake, Bar, Shake, Bar, Shake, Bar, Shake, Bar... <- that is about 24 carbs!

It gets tiresome and you can shake it up a little, maybe two bars in a row . I had a low carb Soup once during the Kuri diet until I realized it had over 2000 mg of sodium! My ankles puffed before my eyes.

Every doc is different so each of us has a specific pre-op regime. Mix & match is just not the way to go. Find other Kuri bandsters and ask them how they got through it...

I definitely feel better as the day goes on. I was not lucky enough to find good Protein powder on the first try...this stuff is gross...liquid chalk but I choke it back. I think I'll feel better in a few days....it is only day 3.

Lean cuts of meat generally have no carbs unless there are other ingredients added to them so I'm not worried about that. I also started taking a multi Vitamin today.

The extra shake a day should help.

I understand that! I couldn't handle the Protein powder! You are braver than I am.

I sucked it up and bought the slim fast low carb 4 packs. Normally I am not a chocolate lover, but it disguises the protein flavor better than vanilla or strawberry do. They come in 4 packs and I would have been lost without them.

The powder made my tongue feel like I had been licking barnyard critters, blech...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
