Did you bring someone to Mexico?

Recommended Posts

If you flew to Mexico to have the surgery, did someone come with you? I know they let you stay for 3 days, and provide a driver, so is it necessary to bring someone to help you, or was it pretty easy with just the nursing staff and driver?

Thanks!

I went alone but that is because I did not tell anyone before that I was getting the surgery. I didnt want any grief about it. I think most people brought someone with them. I stayed an extra night (at a hotel) so the extra day made it that much better for me to travel by myself. I am a very independent person so not having someone with me was fine for me, but may not be the case for everyone.

I went alone and had no problems. There are other surgical patients there to talk to if you want but I mostly slept, watched a little TV on the 3rd day. The nursing staff took good care of me and if I needed anything I just rang the call button. Travel was no problem either.

I took my mother. My husband said he would go, but she is an RN and I knew she would be making sure everything went well. Plus she was checking the place out for herself, she just had her lapband removed and wants VSG. I believe I could have gone alone, absolutely. I just enjoyed the company and the first day or two, a hand getting out of the bed without pulling somethingbiggrin.gif

But, like Foxbins said, the nursing staff is 100% on top of things and you don't wait around for anything.

Definitely not necessary, but sometimes the comfort of having someone from back home is nice...also a helping hand through the airports is priceless!

You could do it yourself - I brought my partner and it was nice to have him. But, if you bring someone, make sure they are very patient and not affected by the environment. You'll spend a lot of time sleeping. The staff takes really good care of you.

Who was the doctor who performed your surgery, at what hospital and what was your total out of pocket expence if you dont mind me asking. I will be paying cash and I am probably going to be traveling alone, would love any helpful tips on what, if anything I should take with me(for ex:Meds, shakes), I have done alot of research am just so overwhelmed with all the different options. I think I would like to do the Gastric Plication Surgery, since so many people are going that route after failed lap-band and it doesnt seem as invasive as the gastric sleeve because no part of the stomach is removed. What are your thoughts?

Btw, thank you for your time, I really appreciate it:)

Went alone and was totally fine! Like everyone else said: you sleep, you rest, you watch tv, pretty boring for someone else. ;o) I did meet another patient and she was great company the last 2 days!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
