Hello Everybody........................ I'm getting prepared for my surgery on April 5th............. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

I was wondering does anyone else use UPCalD? It says that it's tasteless and you can put it in anything..... what are your thoughts?

I've never heard of UPCalD. I use Citrical Petites; before that I used Celebrate lemon square chewables, and before that I used some blueberry-flavored liquid I found at costco. What's UpCalD and where do you get it?

Well so far I've seen it only online. They have it everywhere online and it's a powder form of calcium citrate. Let me ask, are the petites smaller then the regular ones? Why did you stop using the liquid kind?

I don't know how big the regular ones are, but the petites are still a pretty big pill, so I'm guessing the regular ones are huge. I stopped using the liquid after I moved on to solid food and had finished off the bottle. I travel for work fairly regularly and the bottle has to be refrigerated so it was a nuisance. I liked the Celebrate but they are expensive and have a lot of carbs in them.

I have always had trouble swallowing the Calcium tabs pre-op. I got me some of the powdered Multivitamin with calcium in it through Bariatric Advantage. Has a fruity taste. Just mix in on in with my chrystal light. Just be sure to stir every so often. The calcium powders tend to settle to the bottom. Sleeve feels so much better taking the Vitamins in with my Fluid intake through the day. Otherwise I'm full to the gills taking the vitamin/supplement pills!

Dimples509...........I get the Wild berry Punch Chrystals from Bariatric Advantage. It's a complete Multiformula with Calcium. Just mix in one little scoop with your fluids twice a day and you're good. The formulation does include Vitamin D. I'm just having to take additional vitamin D because I was super low even before surgery. Oh almost forgot, my doctor has us all do weekly sublingual B-12. Well this formula contains the higher dose that we need after surgery. It's a great product all around.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
