Hello and where to get info

Recommended Posts

:help: Hello everybody. Just joined the forum and am wondering what to do next. I feel I really need this to get my health under control. I have been reading different posts and have seen some that are simular to my situation. I am 6'4" and currently at 310 pounds, I am diabetic taking four to five shots a day but supposedly type two, I have in the past taken off some weight and my blood sugars go way down so that I don't even need shots. I live in Port Orchard Washington and I am looking for A place close to home that is fairly affordable. Just watched the video I got in the mail from the Surgical Weight Loss Clinic in Tacoma. Ok seems like I'm babbling. Anyone who can give me some help with getting this thing going I would really be grateful for your help. OK, bye for now:help:

Welcome to LBT!! :welcome: The best advice I have to offer is read, read, and read, and ask lots of questions. I encourage to do as much research as time will allow. Knowledge is power and LBT helped me tremendously in knowing what to expect from myself and my band.

First I prayed.....then I started with my PCP and located a surgeon. Next I went through the insurance process and here I am 4 wks banded. Still praying BTW. I hope you will carefully look at all your options and I wish you the very best!!

Hang on MrD. Some of our guys will check in soon and you'll get good feedback. Jack comes to mind off the bat, but there are others! And plenty of bandsters in your neck of the woods, too. Good luck! And do like 3Loves says...read, read, read! Welcome to LBT!

I agree, read read read and then read. I've asked so many questions on here I was afraid I'd reached my limit. But, everyone is wonderful here about being helpful. Good luck with your insurance company and this is the best place in the world to learn.

I checked with my insurance (Aetna PPO) and they say no no no. So, I am looking to self pay. So far checking into monthly payments has me thinking of Mexico because of the costs, although I would prefer to do locally. Thanks for the hello's and I am reading.

I think NWWLS is an option too. Check your providers list that insurance usually gives out if you are looking to go through them. You should be able to prove medical necessity with an insulin habit like that . There are a few in Seattle and even a surgeon in Shelton (I think).

I am in Bremerton, but was banded in Mexico. Feel free to contact me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
