I left my stomach in Mexicali

Recommended Posts

:) Heh. Happen to be there this very moment, typing in the gloom. I miss coffee badly. Badly!

Well, if we can't amuse you, we CAN depress the h*ll outta ya. Since I'm near the Windy City, we know oh so well, if ya don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it'll change.

I hear ya on the coffee. One thing I'm NOT looking forward to, giving up my morning coffee IV. All in good time, right?

Thanks for the great summary, I love it! I'm heading down to Dr. Aceves on Tuesday, with a surgery date of Wed. April 13th. I now know to ask to go first and to make sure I am in a quiet room! Please post your progress!

I just got back from Mexicali, I deposited my stomach there too! Thank you for this post, I read it several times during my stay, it was my reference to grasp what was in store for me each step of the way. I must say it was SPOT ON! Everything! From doc's lecture to fading to black, to Mexican meds, to annoying chatter at the nurses station my first night (improved after that), to finding a pain pill in the middle of the night... No kid, but I had to hunt down a nurse who hunted down the correct nurse and quickly I was given paid meds and heading back to sleep! The first 24 hours are rough, no doubt! I agree that the apple juice and chix Soup rocked my world! Anyway, thanks for the Mexicali experience guideline... It gave me confidence to persevere the experience. And by the way, considering they opened me up and took out my stomach, it was overall a good experience if anyone is considering Dr. Aceves and his staff. I have no regrets about my choice of doctor. I am 1 day home and looking forward to a healthier lifestyle! :)

:) .You're welcome! I was understandably terrified to do this and I'm still not sure what came over me. I mean what the hell, who does this? But I did it and I didn't die and in a way...in a really odd way...it was sort of a good time. Good luck to you 2b!

Only post EVER to make me excited for upcoming Mexico trip. Sometimes we just take it all too damn seriously. Not that it isn't serious, but God knows, a sense of humor helps. Thanks!

WOW! Do we get drugs that good here in the states? Did you guys in the states feel you were given enough to be comfortable? I would rather try to sleep thru the first few days except when I have to walk if at all possible!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
