ChicagoCoco 0 Posted June 26, 2006 Hi, Folks. I was banded on June 19th and everything has been going well (I think!). But, I have a sharp pain in my lower abdomen, about four inches to the right of my belly button (and about five inches below my port incision). It feels like a cramp, but I don't have gas issues and I while I haven't been as regular as I'd like, I'm not totally backed up. Sometimes it moves slightly lower, as if it's hovering around the ovary area, but then moves back up. Any ideas? I've gotten myself a bit worried. The pain isn't the sort of thing that I normally have and so I'm convinced it's related to the surgery. Likewise, I'm not sure it's drastic enough, although it is uncomfortable when I do things like stand or walk the dog, to alert my physician. I hate to be a screaming Mimi. I guess I'm really just hoping this sounds familiar to someone and for some sage advice. Anyone? Thanks for your help!!! Best, Coco
amus71774 0 Posted June 26, 2006 I was banded on June 7th and just had my post op appointment with my Dr. I explained to her that I was having similiar pains like you are having, as well as pain between my shoulders and she said that it is related to gas from the surgery when they pump your stomach up. I would call your doctor just in case.
ChicagoCoco 0 Posted June 26, 2006 Thanks, Amus. Have your pains gone away?
Loving-It 0 Posted June 26, 2006 I was banded on June 7th and just had my post op appointment with my Dr. I explained to her that I was having similiar pains like you are having, as well as pain between my shoulders and she said that it is related to gas from the surgery when they pump your stomach up. Might have been less. It might also be your port. My port is to the right of my belly button and it caused me the most pain. It's much, much better now...can't hardly feel it. I agree again, call the doctor.
johnna 0 Posted June 27, 2006 Could you be ovulating? Another thread is talking about how their periods, hormones, etc. is changing since they've been banded. So, you may have a different sensation than previous to surgery.
health1st 1 Posted June 27, 2006 Does it hurt worse when you bend over or move? I had some sharp, stabbing pain right where you are describing your pain. after I over did it with some yard work. For 24 hrs it was very sharp, scary. Went to bed with heating pad. My Doc said I made a nerve ending very unhappy by bending over too much and it was "like" the nerve was frayed. The sharp stabbing pain went away pretty fast, 24 hrs, and then just dull ache for aboat a week.
ChicagoCoco 0 Posted June 27, 2006 Hi. Thanks for the advice. I'll call my doctor today. Yesterday, out of frustration, I took some over-the-counter laxatives thinking, "it can't hurt." That seems to have worked a bit. Even though I wasn't officially constipated, I probably wasn't as normal as I should have been. The nerve thing sounds scary! I hope it's all gone now. Funny what gardening can do. I read somewhere that gardening burns a whole bunch of calories! Anyway, thanks again, guys. Your ideas were helpful. If I talk to my MD and find out it was something besides intestinal blockage/cramp, I'll let you know.
