constipation post surgery

This has been an on going problem for me from day one and I am now nearly 10mths out!!

In the beginning I used to get some linseed and swallow with a large glass of Water and normally that did the trick... however, more lately it is not working for me so I have started to take senna tablets to help. Without these I can go for the best part of a week without a movement... yeah, it is awful. Makes me feel full and sick and uncomfortable.

I don't like taking laxatives, but as above, I don't have the room for high fibre food if I eat Protein first!!

Hon...you might just have to manually remove it. Gross I know, but it does need to come out before you end up impacted with stool. Rubber glove a little pushing and a couple of sweeps around it with your finger shoule loosen it enough that you can push it out the rest of the way...or you may need to dig a little. Sorry to be so graphic...I feel your pain after my 2nd child was born I spent 2 weeks without a bowel movement...it was torture and just "digging" was the only thing that finally got things moving again (I had been trying to go for about 4 days at that point)

I had my surgery april 19, and the first couple days i didn't go, and then i went regular for 2 days, and now a week later i'm in hellllll...it's horrible, the pain is godawful, I scream when i try to go, i've had this big giant ball stuck up there for a few days now and every day just gets more painful, its to where just going pee it will try to come out but just cause severe pain, and we call the doc and they say its regular, just take Miralax and duralax, or however you spell, i've done both, plus enema, plus this glyserine thingy, but it hasn't gotten rid of the plug, i was able to go around the plug this morning, but unfortionatley the painful plug is still there, and i'm hating it, this is way more pain then the surgery itself, I don't know what to do, its just so miserable, i just want it to come out of me already....

My doc said dont let it go to long, the pushing is not good for the new tummy... take your benifiber every day...and whatever else you need to do the keep things going. Also Calcium and vid D will slow things down... make sure you are taking magnesium to help with that part. I have problems too, trying to keep on top of it. I also use phylium seed fiber... some do not like the bulk, but I find it works better than the benifiber type.

Everyone says Miralax works the best...but be careful. I almost died taking it. SERIOUSLY! I was never allergic to anything my whole life and the main ingredient in Miralax broke me out in hives all over my body and my throat was closing. Had to have an Epi shot. Find out from your doctor what he would suggest.

Seems to be a common problem. I have struggled with it since surgery. Finally broke down and bought some chewable fiber gummies at costco last night.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
