was curious if anyone has been able to have someone in their family stay overnight with them at hospital?

i dont have adate yet, but my mom has already made it clear that she wants to be there with me for surgery and such, but her going home and coming back every day isnt really an option. the hospital is about an hour away from our house, and she doesnt have a license. so she would be getting dropped off with me the day of surgery...ill definitly ask my doctor when i see him again, but i was just wondering if anyone on here had someone with them the whole time. thankkss

Personally, I prefer to suffer in solitude when I have to go to the hospital, but I certainly did see others with family members around them 24/7. Different hospitals have different visitation policies, even different wards inside a hospital can vary. Check with your doctor, and if possible, you might want to find out which floors the post-op bariatric patients are admitted to. You could call and speak with the nursing supervisor and ask their policy ahead of time and make any special arrangements they might require. In my experience, it's the nurses who call most of the shots on the floor, not the doctors, when it comes to visitation. Good luck.

I had my surgery on 3/24 @WMC in westchester, NY. and by the time they took me upstairs to my room they had told my mom that visting hours are over. She took everything i had packed for my stay back home. They wouldn't even let her see me to my room.. When my Grandma was sick and she was sent to her room from the ER in greenwich, CT they allowed us to go upstairs to make sure she was comfortable and it was like 2:30 Am. Every hospital might have different policies. If you explain to the Head nurse the situation she might be understanding and let them stay but then again they might not. Good luck.

Hubby stayed with me. Actually he slept in the bed and I slept in the recliner. LOL.... Each hospital is different.

My husband stayed the first night and my parents stayed in a nearby hotel. The second night my mom was going to stay with me and my dad stay in the hotel, but due to my dad's heart condition he did not want to stay there by himself. So I had them both stay. A nurse came in pretty late that night and asked which one was staying and I told her both. Nothing else was said about it. My room had the patient bed, a recliner, and a sofa/twin bed combo. Everyone was quite comfortable.

I was in a regular hospital room, with a fold down style love seat sized bed. My husband was on a business trip, and I had a friend with my son so noone stayed but when my hubby came in town he could have if he wanted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
