Kaiser Orientation...

Recommended Posts

I went to the orientation at Kaiser for the Options program. I didn't learn anything new, for I've done all my research. However, I have to say that just being there made me feel sick and nervous. The whole thing is just scary and slightly depressing. I haven't been this nervous in a long time. I have no idea what to do. It's amazing that they would rather cut you open than put you in a fully equipped gym with a personal trainer and food plan.

Actually I did learn one new thing....they don't require you to even do the 12 week class. You could simply contact the surgeon and have a consult from there. Don't think I"ll got hat route, but it's an idea.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I wondered myself why kaiser doesn't offer a gym membership and p/t as an option. Would seem cheaper. However I did get the sleeve and went through the kaiser program and am very happy I did. I have lost 47.7 lbs. Um almost 2 months out and feel amazing. I did not go through a 12 week program. Best to you. Lisa

To be fair, this was just the first day (orientation). I'm sure the topics they cover are great. I just feel incredibly nervous and am not sure why.

It's only natural to be nervous. You will come to a sound decision after going through their amazing program. Lisa

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
