My surgery is on Monday and I'm more excited than anything, but I slightly feel scared. So not looking forward to the pain, but I'm really looking forward to being off work and taking a break from school. I'm graduating from college this summer and this will be my last break, 4 years of college and that freshman 15 turned into freshman 100. It's exciting to know that my life is taking a great turn. I'm finally adjusted to the Pre-Op diet, but for some reason my weightloss has stalled (kinda scary). I've almost got to the point where I don't want to eat which is weird. But yeah, I am very happy and I hope that you all are experiencing the utmost happiness as well!

Candace

P.S. After surgery, when do you guys think it would be ok to start flying? I intend on traveling very soon but I'm scared to do so.

Hi Candace,

I'm getting sleeved on Monday as well and I'm feeling a little scared too. Just like you, I beginned gaining my weight in college and I continued to go up up from there. They only difference between us is that I graduated from college 10 years ago. Lol.

Nevertheless, I know everything will turn out just fine for the both of us so, keep me posted and I'll do the same!!! :)

Wishing you well from Irving, Texas

I've been able to sleep but I find myself tossing and turning alot. I feel more anxious than anything. I'm scared of the pain afterward, but other than that I am not really scared about the procedure it sorta feels like my mind is at peace on that particular aspect of things. Do you feel like you've had enough time to mentally prep for all the changes? Sometimes, I feel like I haven't but I feel like I'm changing drastically all around. I feel like a new person already. :)

Hey there ladies...I too am getting sleeved on Monday :D

I have been trying to hold it all together the last few days but am feeling a little overwhelmed. I'm a bit anxious and nervous, I think of the unknown mostly the pain after-wards and not really knowing how I myself am going to do with it. You get to read everyones stories on here but everyone is different and I just pray that everything works out in my favor....

Wow........didn't know there would be so many.....I'm on for Monday also. In Traverse City , Michigan with Dr. Nizzi. I am only 2 years late in having a bariatric surgery.

I was scheduled for June of 2009. Had all approvals and the date set, then in early March of that year I had some shoulder blade pain. I had 2 really bad nights so after work I went to the ER. Had a super sharp nurse and Dr. They caught that it might be heart and 45 minutes later I was headed ti the nearest cardiac unit and 1 and 1/2 days later I had a triple bypass.

So two years later, I have done fairly well at keeping 40 pounds off I lost before and after that surgery, but am on 90 units of Levimir a day and 15-20 of Novalog.I decided to do it for my health. I am on BP meds, cholesterol meds, other diabetic meds, aas well as a BiPap machine.

My BMI is borderline, but with those conditions I was approved.

At my age the Dr. strongly recommended the VSG as with the Roux en Y you can't take the aspirin that I am on for the rest of my days.

Looking forward, but also scared. Almost cancelled earlier in the week. Have been very busy for the 10 weeks prior to this with being a music director for the Spring Musical nearby, so haven't had much time until this week to think about it and now we are 3 days away.....10:45 MOnday a.m.

Good luck to you all.

You're going to do just beautifully! I'm a music lover. My surgery is next Friday the 8th. I have an iPod Nano and I'm downloading all kinds of "new" music on it for the hospital and the next week, just to calm me down. You are so fortunate to be able to have this. Today, when I went for my last lab work, a nurse told me I was so so fortunate to be able to have the sleeve, for many have to settle for the bypass because of so many health issues. That in itself was comforting. I became "happy" and at peace when I made the decision to press on with the surgery. You likely did, too. Get some new CD's. Enjoy the music. Painkillers will kick out the pain. My two friends here who have just had this didn't even need painkillers! Good luck to you!

I'm also getting sleeved tomorrow, April 4th in San Diego. I think that makes me the 6th person getting sleeved tomorrow from this post. I think it would be kinda cool for the 6 of us (or more if they're out there) to share how we're doing as we progress since we're all sleeved on the same day. I'd be especially curious how others are going through the food stages (and how fast). If anyone's interested, we could swap emails and set up a group email list. Just an idea! In any case, good luck to everyone with their upcoming surgeries!!

Well all of us are one week out now.....How is everyone doing???

It was a bit more than I expected, but overall I am doing fine. Not hungry at all. Went with wife today as she had a fish and chips meal. I had one spoon of her cottage cheese and sat there and drank iced tea. Playing for a wedding tomorrow morning (yes a Monday morning) and then go for my one week check up. So far food commercials don't bother me either. I am just not hungry.

Looking at my belly I do look like I lost a sword fight and got stabbed a few times, have some pain, but overall it's been an easy week.

Feeling alot better now that I'm past the Constipation and gas. I know, too much information but it was horrible. Now I'm finally feeling relief , I feel like I could go dancing or something. I'm enjoying the sugar free popsicles and sonic ice :) It's good to hear that you are doing well Don!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
