stuck at 178 for 5 weeks

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, I've heard about 3 weeks stall but this is ridiculous...I had my surgery on january 18th, weighing 194. Around february first I was down to 178. So I've only lost 16 pounds since Jan 18th!!! This is so discouraging. I know part of the problem is I'm not getting enough Protein. So this past week, I started whey Protein Shakes, 1 shake equals 38 grams of protein. I try to get the remainder of protein from food. Also I have not been able to drink 64oz everyday. Should I try the 5 day pouch test? I'm getting worried that I may have failed the sleeve :(

ok, I was sleeved January 19th and I am down 62 lbs. I know for a fact I am not getting enough Protein. I am however drinking my Water and taking all of my Vitamins. The past 2 days I have not been hungry at all. I am having to make myself eat something today. This sleeve thing is a strange creature.

I've read on here that Water has a huge part of the weight-loss and the Protein has a big affect on filling you up longer. So you HAVE to find a way to get it in. Also, are you drinking while you eat? My paper work says NO fluids 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. Any exercising? Are you journaling your intake? You should roughly be getting 600-800 calories depending on your body. You may require less. As far as the rest this is what my paperwork says:

60-70gms Protein (Men 70-80)

40gms carbs

30gms Fat

600-800 Calories

That's all I have. Maybe others can give some other reasons. Hope this helps!

Everybody is told something different. That's why I believe in doing what feels right and what works. A lot of people seem to believe the sleeve is a "jail sentence" and you can only do certain things. If you read lots of posts, you'll see everybody is told different. Just do what works for you and go by your doctor's guidelines. For heaven's sake this does not mean eat junkfood and anything that will harm your stomach, but it does mean try mixing things up to see what may work. Carb's are not a bad thing. Just make sure they are healthy carbs and not the junk ones. As for the stall, you weren't really that heavy when you started so you will lose slower. I'm sorry if that's not what you want to hear, but that is an average of 1.5 lbs a week--that's awesome! Could you have done that without the sleeve? My suggestion would be drink lots of fluid--sip it throughout the day, eat more Protein, cut back on carbs, and go for a 30min walk per day. Not a stroll, but at a good clip. I've had some 2 week stalls which have brought terror to me, so I know what you're going through. Just hang in there and keep at it.

Hey, just this morning I said to my husband, "Look, I've lost 10 pounds since February!" That's not a bad weight loss -- 10 lbs a month is fantastic -- in fact, I've pretty much lost 10 pounds a month since my 2nd or 3rd month -- the first month you're going to the lose the fastest -- but there after should be a regular, steady weight loss -- some months more, some months less -- but more or less the same. 16 lbs in one month is awesome!! Don't worry, you're still gonna lose! And a 5 week stall is not unheard of -- make sure you're eating your Protein, getting in enough calories and drinking your water!

As a low BMI patient myslef (actually, you and I have almost the same starting weight) I understand the frustration of losing slowly compared to others. But, you have to remember that you are 16 pounds less than before. That is awesome!!!! It may be worthwile to make sure you log all your food (I use an app on my phone) so you know exactly what you are eating (cals, carbs, protein). If you see that one of the numbers looks a little off, you can tweak what you are eating.

I agree, that is a long stall, but if you are eating less, the weight will continue to come off.

Are you eating anything in particular that is on the no-no list?

Heck I was stalled at 191 for WEEKS! I thought I would die! So I took to tracking my food, kept my carbs under 30 and added an extra Protein shake a day. I also added essential fatty acids, ie lanolic acid, olive oil, ect. in the form of a supplement. I increased the intensity of my cardio work out too.

Water is important, it helps our body flush out the bad including fat.

I dropped to 179 in 2 weeks after the stall and stayed for 2 weeks, then 176 for week and now 174. I bet it stays here too for a bit. It seems now that the bulk of the weight has been lost the weight comes off and then levels for a bit. Just stick to the good habits and you will start moving again.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
