Are We Doing Atkins After Being Sleeved????

Recommended Posts

Hi Penpen biggrin.gif I'm only 2 weeks & 2 days post-op, but I've learned that the sleeve is not a magic tool... Is it wonderful?? YES.. Am I glad I did it??? YES, EVERY DAY!!! ... Would I do it again??? IN A HEARTBEAT!!

You may read on here and hear on youtube about people losing their desire for food... Well, I don't know if it is really the desire for food that is lost or more like a certain motivation not to eat that is gained... For me I love food... mainly, I love cooking new and exciting foods for friends and family... even now I will find a recipe and be like, wow, that sounds great... And then I save it for when I'm able to actually eat again.. So yes, I still have the desire to eat..... BUT..... i also know how much my sleeve can handle right now... about 1/4 cup of mushy Soup or 1/8 of mushy food like chicken salad.... if i go over this, or don't focus on when I feel full, or if i drink too fast, i vomit.... In the last 2 days I've puked 3 TIMES.....that is a lot of motivation not to overeat... From what I've heard, that doesn't really go away....

So, I look at the sleeve as a learning device.... it teaches us to eat in moderation, and that if we don't there will be consequences..... Where before I would over eat or go back for seconds, now I know what my limits are and what will work for me.... I'm doing low carb... I aim for 20 or less grams of carbs per day, but sometimes it's under 30.... that is fine.... I was a carb loving girl... still am I'm afraid... and i have a huge butt to show for it biggrin.gif.... now that i'm trying to lose my butt, I'm low-carbing it... But i'm not going to forever.. Like Tiffykins, I plan on eating a couple of bites of carbs once I've lost the majority of my weight... But seriously, you can't really eat badly, so YES, you will have to watch what you eat... Because you will have to focus on Protein FIRST and after getting in your Protein, honestly there wont be much room for anything else!!!

What you ask about being tortured.... It might seem like torture, but if you use your post-op time to learn about healthier eating and then you do it and you see how your body and mind improve, you are more likely to adopt that lifestyle for the rest of your life.... If you don't, then you will probably be one of the people we hear about who has regained their weight...... But if you use it correctly, you will still be able to enjoy some of your favorite foods, but maybe only a bite or two and then you will be satisfied.....

I'm just starting the journey of finding the right surgeon. I'm really trying to get a good understanding of what my hunger strengths, weaknesses, and just how my stomach will function once I'm sleeved. Do you still crave everything you use to? If you wanted to, could you overeat at one sitting or does your sleeve prevent that? I suppose what I'm asking is how exactly does the sleeve change your dynamics? Does it do more than just limit your intake? Or are you tortured because you still crave all the bad things and still have to fight them away just like you did before you were sleeved?

I understand that this is only a tool...that I still have to work hard and make good food choices but I don't want to feel like I do now. Before I do something so drastic, I want to make sure that the sleeve will not be another failure.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
