Used2b575lbs 29 Posted March 30, 2011 for weeks, I'd say about 8 weeks total cottage cheese was my savior, it was the only thing that would go down easy from a Protein standpoint, you'll get there for the first two weeks I had a horrible time with my Protein shakes. I remember one time taking 90 minutes to get down 4 ozs of shake.
Rootman 1,101 Posted March 30, 2011 I elected to do the liquid pre-op diet for 15 days, the guidelines from my surgeon said 2 weeks POST-op liquid diet and I stuck with it a few more days than that, in fact I didn't want to eat as the thought of eating ANYTHING just was just revolting. I gradually introduced pureed stuff and thicker Soups and at 6 weeks some mushy whole foods. Take your time, there is NOTHING wrong with taking the liquid diet for a longer period but you may seriously mess yourself up trying to force food on your tender stomach too soon. BTW: Used2b575lbs, I glanced at your profile pic, man do you look fantastic! You've come an incredibly long way and are a true inspiration to us all.
Tiffykins 673 Posted March 30, 2011 I had 2 weeks clears (actually did 17 days), and 1 week of full liquids then onto mushy/purees. This was after my leak repair, and not being able to have anything by mouth for over 20 days. I was fed via a central line and a TPN bag of 1800 calories with nutrients/vitamins/protein via IV to allow my stomach to heal after the leak repair. So, I went almost 3 weeks with NOTHING by mouth. No ice chips, no hard cardy, nothing more than my own spit. It was hell, but I survived, and if I can go that long with nothing, a couple of weeks of liquids seemed so trivial once I was able to have anything in my mouth ! ! ! My program normal guidelines are 2 weeks clear, 2 weeks full, 2 weeks mushy/purees then introduce regular solids as tolerated. No raw veggies, fruit or nuts until 3 months post-op. Chicadee 10 Posted March 30, 2011 my pre-op is 12 days shakes and control bars, then 2 days prior clear liquids only. Then post-op 1 week clear, 1 week full, 1 week puree, 1 week soft diet and then on to regular stuff but going slow and trying out one thing at a time and making sure everything is cooked enough and then chewed well. swizzly 901 Posted March 30, 2011 Is my program really the only one anywhere that has no real pre-op diet, and moves to all normal foods pretty much straight away after surgery? (Well, one day of nothing till leak test passed, then two days of liquids, then on to soft foods and regular food, except raw fruit and veg, which is cleared at four weeks).
