I am trying my best to do what the doctor asks which is 2 small pureed meals but it is almost impossible with no appetite. When I do sit down to make myself eat I am repelled by pureed foods. Yuck! Cannot stand pureed meats...I would have to be extremely hungry to eat that. I have reverted back to more liquids but even with that I am struggling to get those in b/c there is literally no appetite. I know this is the purpose of the surgery...but now I am struggling to eat anything at all. I hope this is a phase that passes b/c I would like to be able to eat enough to keep myself nourished. Before surgery I dreamed about having my appetite taken away and now that it is completely gone it is really really hard to eat anything!

I never ate pureed meat either. I just had shakes, oatmeal, refried rice, cheese ect. I just couldn't' do it either!

Don't worry, pureed won't last forever :)

It WILL get better but not much - if you're lucky. I am 4 months out and still do not get really hungry. I get a funny feeling before lunch and supper that I really can't equate with being hungry, it's more of what they used to call "peckish". I think it is my stomach acid churning up. I eat a few saltine crackers and it keeps it at bay. I missed eating some at first but really appreciate the fact that that I am not voraciously hungry like I used to be.

My appetite s less than before surgery, however I wish it was less than it is now... Kind of hungry every two hours or so... Count yourself as a lucky one, you will feel better, you will learn to eat for the nourishment and that will make it TONS easier to stay on the plan! This is a good thing even if it doesn't seem like it right now....Congrats on the 24 lbs in two weeks too, that is fantastic!

It will pass... meanwhile keep hydrated with whatever you can and you'll get thru it.

Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
