Tomorrow will be two weeks since surgery. Normal ups and downs but getting better every day. I am really dying for a cup of coffee. I drank it right up to the day before surgery and never had withdraws that bad but Decaf tea and coffee is not cutting it. I can't for the life of me remember why we're not supposed to have it. How long after surgery did anybody start having caffeine.

Caffeine irritates the stomach and coffee is acidic, don't want acidic things on a healing stomach. My surgeon said no coffee for 8 weeks but I drank one cup in the am at 4 weeks and did okay. I think 2 weeks is a little early.

I am 4 weeks post-op but I am still too scared to try any. I miss my morning cup of coffee! I made the mistake of having something with a couple of pieces of Tomato hidden in it and I paid dearly for it for a whole day! I am so scared to try anything acidic or "forbidden" due to this!

I am glad to hear that I may get to have my daily cup of joe again!

I had coffee since week 2 without any problems. Just the amount is less but my coffe is very strong and it has caused no problem whatsoever. :D

Thanks for the in-put. After reading the last three post, I'm heading to Starbucks :D . Just kidding, I think I'll try to give it another week.

I had coffee a few days out. I never was told not to, at least that I could remember.

Was told that coffee is fine since post-op day 1 here. I think I had my first cup around day 4 and didn't have any problems. I drink it black and obviously had to take it slowly at first.

People get told different things and the truth of the matter is that a sip isn't going to hurt/kill you. If you want to try it that badly, I'd say go for it (slowly) and see how your body reacts.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
