Day 1 - pre op diet :(

Recommended Posts

This sucks... No other word for it. My surgeon requires two weeks, not really a liquid diet, but I had to buy Meal Replacements from his office. Right now I am eating some kind of pudding. This morning I had a little packet of some kind of Cereal with 4oz of skim milk (that's the only milk in the two week diet - 4 oz at breakfast). Maybe it will get better in the next few days, but I'm not really optimistic. I have to have 6 of the Meal Replacement packets a day. In between, I can have anything zero-calorie and sugar free. It specified jell-o but the only sugar free Jello I found had 10 calories in a serving, so I guess thats out. I stocked up on Crystal Light, and I am trying to find the flavor syrups I have seen everyone talking about on here, but they didnt have them at our grocery store. I WILL GET THROUGH THIS, BECAUSE IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT IN TWO WEEKS WHEN I GET MY SLEEVE!!!!!!

You will definitely get through it. I thought the first and now the last days of the liquid diet were the hardest. I am starving today and warned my coworkers that I might get grouchy. Everyone at my office has been great with their support.

IMO the 10 calorie Jello would be okay. It was on the list and 10 calories is really nothing.

Keep your eye on the prize - You can do it! It WILL be worth it all. I'm 101 pounds down and thinner than I have been in like a decade or more. Went through 2 weeks of pre-op diet, thought I was gonna starve, worst part was in the hotel room the days before surgery and every other commercial was for a pizza chain that had a 5 cheese and ham pizza - I almost buckled!

Stick with it.

If its any consolation, I am on day 4 of my pre op, Its starting to get better and I have lost 7 lbs already. Although its all Water weight, its been a huge motivation for me and im even more determined to keep going.

Hang in there, you can do it!

I start mine tomorrow. I get to have 3 Protein shakes per day plus 2 control bars, plus all the Water I want. I can also have plain veggies with nothing on them and if it gets real bad I can have a grilled/baked chicken breast plain. That's for 12 days, then Clear liquids on the last two.

You can do it. We just have to keep telling ourselves that it will all be worth it.

:high5: this is me...green with envy. I'm still playing the wait on insurance game. My time will come though...and I know that you all will be there to encourage me saying "If I can do it, so can you"

Good luck

I start tomorrow- full liquids. Mainly Protein Shakes. What is hard is it is mainly in case my insurance approval comes through- then they could slot me in fast. It is hard without an actual date!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
