Can I have Coffee?

Recommended Posts

I remember being told to give up coffee prior to banding. I was not a big coffee drinker (once a week) so I did not really question this. I am really jonesing for a cup of coffee this morning. I'm six days post op and I,m having no problems. Is it the cafine?... the acid?...Is there any problem in having one lage cup every week or so?

coffee was one of the things my doc said was okay to drink, even right after surgery I got a cup with skim milk.

IMHO its okay to drink it.

my doc also said coffee is fine although some people have trouble with the acidity - if it bothers you, i'd stay away but if you are ok with it, go for it

coffee is a stomach irritant...

I drink 3-4 cups each morning. The way I figure, Ive given enough stuff up - coffee is NOT negotiable!

My nutritionist said to stay away from coffee & caffeine. Here is what she put in a nutrition binder she gave me. This is just advice that was given to me, take the info and do what's right for you! :

Caffeine may act as a diuretic (increases urine output), raise blood pressure, cause heart burn, heart palpitations, disturb sleep patterns, stimulate appetite, and most importantly irritate the lining of the stomach. Forming healthy habits means cutting down on caffeine. To avoid a withdrawal headache that may last a couple days, start gradually reducing your intake. Try 1/2 n 1/2 coffee (decaf and regular mixed). There are many delicious herbal and Decaf teas. Do not take Excedrin (or other pain relievers that contain caffeine) to relieve headache, use Tylenol.

I drink coffee frozen more often than hot. Have had no issues w/ it but I don't drink it every day either so dunno. My Dr. never said I could not have coffee He has said something about the CALORIES in the starbucks I drink though.

I think they only worry about caffeine right after the surgery while you are healing. Not sure if it's a blood thinner or what - but they never said I couldn't have ANY.

Moderation until you get all healed up.

I couldn't live without the stuff.

Good luck!

I too drink like 3-4 cups a day. Can't live without it! I say try it, if it works, continue. I also think it curbs my appetite.
