was just wondering people's general recovery time after surgery.. like how long till you were feeling "decent", and then when you could lift?

im asking cause as im getting all of my insurance requirements down, im starting to worry about help around the house.im currently a stay at home mom, i have a 2 year old son, by the time i expect to have surgery he'll be almost 3, and hes currently 33 lbs, and very clingy half the time.

i live at home with my mom, and boyfriend. both work full time though, and im not sure if either are going to be able to take vaca time to help with my son, i can get help after either of them gets home, and then on sundays when my bf has off.. but im worried about those other 3 days when im home alone with him from 9-7.

im getting super concerned to the point that im scared im going to have to ditch the whole idea of surgery, or at least post pone it a few years till hes older to actually understand that mommy cant lift him right now....

so how long could everyone resume mostly normal activity? has anyone else on here had the sleeve and had a toddler at home?

thanks so much

Hi ladies! My doc had me.. No lifting for 2 weeks I have 4 kids the younger ones are 3 and 1 yr old and she weighs 22 lb. He said I could carry her after 2 weeks n I did just not that much. I'm a single parent and my oldest 2 kids helped me and they are 8 and 5. I had a total of 4 weeks off work and I'm going back to it today. My surgery was Feb 28. Hope this helps but I know all doctors are different. Good luck, patty

My doctor said no lifting anything over 20 lbs for 2 weeks.

Could you replace lifting him with laying next to him or cuddling on the couch when he gets in his clingy stage? And even though he's only 3 you can work to prepare him and tell him that you won't be able to lift him and maybe you can come up with something special to replace it with, something he chooses. Maybe a special game or the cuddling. Good luck.

My baby was 9 months old when I had my op, my mum came over but she can't lift heavy things either, so I still had to lift the baby once in a while, I wouldn't recommend you do the same but everything was fine. To be honest the recuperation is so fast if you don't have any complications, after 3 days postop I was feeling OK, after a week I was near normal, after 2 weeks I was 100%, my baby was baptised when I was 2 weeks out and I managed to sort things out. Good luck to you!

My Dr said no lifting for 6 weeks..... as I help my husband out with his concerts it meant I had to take a roady vacation! Its not worth risking anything happening and damaging your sleeve, you've been thru so much to get this far. The last thing you need is to go back in for any reason and risk being off limits for even longer.

I think the 2 week mark was when I felt 'normal' again, I thought I did before then, but once I reached it I realised I'd been fooling myself.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
