Insurance approval received - Dr Kim

Recommended Posts

Hi, new to the boards. Been lurking some. Got my insurance approval last week and am now waiting for Dr Kim's scheduler to call me to get things rolling. I have a sleep study scheduled for 4/8 but that's it so far.

Currently I'm at about 367 pounds and am 5'11". I am 41 years old. Ideally I'd like to lose around 200 pounds.

My story is the same as alot of you. I've always struggled with weight, have had some success in the past with diet and exercise, but always end up regaining everything and then some. I always thought I'd be one of the 5% who take it off and keep it off forever. It's only taken me 20 years to realize that I'm not one of the 5% and it's time to take a different road.

I am nervous and excited about the journey before me.

Congrats to you! Receiving that letter is just wonderful! I reread mine about 10 times before I was sure it was actually an approval letter- I was so sure I'd be denied. It's good that you are having a sleep study done prior to surgery. I didn't and then the nurses realized I had poor oxygen output while I was sleeping at the hospital. It extended my hospital stay and now I have to sleep with oxygen until I have a sleep study done. They wanted me to have one done the week after leaving the hospital. That was crazy since I was and am still sleeping in a recliner (11 days post-op). Need to schedule one soon though.

Good luck to you as you begin this journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
