Surgery date 04/25

Recommended Posts

I started taking the Vitamins almost 10 months before my surgery. So it didn't bother me. The Protein shakes are great when I need a boost of protien without many carbs. Just have to find ones that you like. I am odd and do not mind most of the samples that I ordered. Only had one that I found tasted like playdoh and I will make sure never to have that one again.

For me post surgery I was sleepy for the first couple of days but I did get up and walk. I sipped on my fluids and loved warm ones. I was lethargic for the first couple of weeks until I was on full liquids. And then my energy started to perk up. Now that I am on mushies I have no problems needing a nap in the daytime. I have no hunger and I eat because I need to. I have not had any problems getting in my fluids or Protein but that is not the case for everyone. My swelling went down faster than some others. Post op the first month sucks (I will not lie) but after that it gets better when you can move from liquids to more mushy food and I have just been experimenting with solids. So far my tummy likes turkey bacon. I am going to try sausages next and possibly ground meats.

Hope this info helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
