Now 218lbs. What can I expect?

Recommended Posts

I am going to be sleeved in about 3 weeks. My BMI is 37. I have no major co-morbidities, however I do have history of mild depression/anxiety, asthma and I have that annoying extra skin handing over my abdomen from my c-section procedures. I work out A LOT, so I'm pretty muscular. I just haven't been able to lose ANY weight for the past 2 years, despite various diets, cleanses and my intense circuit training and running. Hence why my doctor referred me to my bariatric surgeon. Is there anyone else out there with a similar body that is getting sleeved? I'm curious about what my results might be. Will I lose a lot of my muscle on the 6 month diet? I have worked hard to build up my strength and tone and I'm hoping that, as I lose weight, my body will be able to finally show off all my hard work at the gym! Is this realistic? And on a side note, I AM SO EXCITED TO POSSIBLY BE LEAN. I have struggled with my weight my whole life - since 3rd grade. The thought of this happening in the near future blows my mind for the better. I am so ready for this. I just want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for unrealistic expectations, so any stories or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

If you stick to a high Protein diet you should be good.

Protein burns fat not muscle.

I had my surgery Feb. 28 and started swimming my laps today with no problems. I'm probably older than you (48) but I always had an athletic build since I was young. I was always thin and athletic till I turned 40 and I developed hypothyroidism and watched my weight climb from 125 to 215.

One thing you may want to be aware of.... as my dr. explained to me on Friday when I visited him. A 200 lb person is not going to lose weight as fast as a 300 or 400 lb person.

I was concerned with why i hadn't dropped the average 20 lbs in 2 weeks post op i always read about. And he said to stop worrying. He explained a 300 person will lose 40 in the same time frame a 200 person loses 20... etc etc etc.

I have consistant weight loss of about 1/2 lb per day. I did have the 3rd week stall but i've lost 4 lbs this week so far (monday is my 4 week post op)

I also have the (2x c-section) hangover but it is getting smaller. laugh.gif

Anyway.... i'm rambling. Keep up your protein and you should keep your muscle.

6 month diet? Not sure what your talking about... you mean the diet stages after surgery? I went back to the gym after 6 weeks, and have been doing pretty well there, not to much catching up to do.. I did walk for the first 6 weeks and this helped me from losing any muscle that I had built up in my dance classes. Also, Dr Ali insists on 6 weeks off before you can go back to the harder workout using abs and such... OR go back to work... I was ready to go back at 4... but my work would not allow me to be there without the Drs full approval to lift more than 10 pounds!blink.gif (I teach in an arts program too...)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
