I haven't been sleeved yet, but have a question regarding thirst. I see so many people talking about dehydration and have a friend who went back into the hospital because of it. I'm a drinker (non alcoholic). It's just not, if not more, important than eating. I am a wedding photographer and am on my feet for 6-8hrs for each event. I get VERY hot and thirsty. How could I stay hydrated when I read of so many people who have difficulty getting Water down? Could I get a small cup of Water at a time down quickly if I needed to? Seriously, that is one of the biggest reasons I"m hesitating.

Thanks

Apart from the first 3 days when I was on a drip, I've had no problems with fluids. I was concerned about this, as I had my uvula removed a few years ago and had to be re-hospitalized to go on a drip due to dehydration. I think you'll be just fine. Just allow for a longer hospital stay if necessary - I was planning on staying 1 or 2 nights initially but stayed 3, then BAM day 4 hit and I suddenly felt LOADS better.

I'm a little over a week post op. Like you, I was/am a drinker. Most days I had more than 64 oz of Water easy. The first few days where uncomfortable with gas but now I'm having zero problem drinking. I was worried about gulping being a problem but either I gulp less than I thought or its just not an issue today.

The word gulping really reminded me of my early days. I was only having sips but I was swallowing a lot air. I was concerned thinking that's how things were going to be forever!! Thankfully the amount of air I was swallowing went down to what I consider normal a couple of weeks after surgery. It'll get better very soon and you'll probably forget about these concerns! biggrin.gif

I also like drinking and was worried about taking wussy sips all day. It's really not a problem, I can drink almost normally. Hopefully you will too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
