Any Minnesota people out there?

Wondering about surgeons and outcomes in Minnesota. Having my mind changed by my bodies unique attributes. I was all set to have a RNY and then when did the scope to check things out have to switch plans and go with the sleeve. Trying to get some background on surgeons and info to help me with my decision and to ally my fears and concerns.

I am from the Minneapolis area. I will be having my surgery done at Park Nicollet. Thus far, I highly recommend their program. They are very efficient and on top of things. The do RNY, VSG and bands and they can give you good information on all three. Here is their website: http://www.parknicollet.com/bariatrics/. You start the program by going to an info session which is given by a nurse clinician and a surgeon. Most of the nurses their have had bariatric surgery so they know what you are going through. Hopefully that helps you a little bit.

I live between Hastings and Red Wing. Will be having surgery once it is approved at United Hospital in St. Paul. Been looking at the forums and wondering if there is a support meeting group around for "sleeve" people? Have you heard of any?

I live by the Willmar area and am attending my first seminar on June 21. I am not sure if insurance will cover this or not, but going to try. I have had gastric banding done about 5 years ago and am as heavy now as when I first had it done. I am going to go to Park Nicollette for my seminar.

I'm also from Rochester, and going through the LEARN program at Mayo for surgery. I'm not sure if I will have bypass or sleeve, but I'm leaning towards sleeve at this point.

Who is your surgeon? Kendrick?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
