BPM 0 Posted June 25, 2006 I had a different lap surgery one time that apparently required me to be fully nude on the operating table. It did involve my artery in my upper thigh but that I think could have been overcome. It was embarrassing to say the least. During lapband surgery you are semi clothed at least right? shackdog 1 Posted June 25, 2006 nope, I believe that you just have a surgical gown on and when they get ready to do their thing it is removed, I was put out so dont know for sure but I believe that is what took place.
jpitman69 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Same here-I know I had a gown on when I went in surgery but I think they took it off after I was put under.
BPM 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Well...I guess let me be blunt...hope nobody minds....were you wearing underwear both before and after the surgery?
mousecrazy 2 Posted June 25, 2006 I never thought about it. I would imagine not...seems like it would get in the way...I always think of doctors as mechanics in that way...it has never bothered me. If you have problems with that kind of thing, it is probably something to discuss with your doctor or his staff.
lianna 3 Posted June 25, 2006 I was totally naked under my gown. I was told to remove everything and put on the gown, the hairnet thing, and the booties. When I got in the bed for my I.V. they took off the booties and put on the compression bandages on my legs. I am pretty sure that they want you in nothing but the hospital gown. SherryW 4 Posted June 25, 2006 Just had the gown on. Can't wear underwear because you wake up with a catheder (spelling?).
the best me 6 Posted June 25, 2006 Hospital gown and compression stockings only, and I woke up with a catheter. Yuck. I was so glad to get that thing out later that afternoon. I'm guessing at some point I was in a position I'd rather not think about now that I'm awake. Medical staff see this stuff everyday. I'm sure it's no biggie to them, but...ugh, I shudder at the thought! LOL The most important thought for you should be a safe and successful surgery. You'll be naked. I'm not sure there is a way around it? It's okay, though. You'll be excited to have your band so try not to worry. :nervous
beachgirl 2 Posted June 25, 2006 I just talk to my patient coordinator and she says yes, just the gown with nothing under in case they need fast access. You don't usually have cathedar, although one would probably be helpful but you pee right before surgery and surgery is just one hour and recovery one hour so they don't usually use one. Don't worry, you'll be in happy land and could care less about being nude or not and just think a few months later you'll be wanting people to see you. LOL Good luck in your decisions, Sherri
Stitchy 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Nope! You be nekkid! But you won't care since you will be out like a light. My gown tied in the back and they untied it before I got on the table.
Jachut 487 Posted June 25, 2006 That sort of stuff doesnt worry me. I dont have anything else that other people dont have and I guess mine is prettier than some and uglier than some too. They're not looking - oh, I'm sure they make a wise crack here and there, but you dont hear it. I was allowed to wear underwear, they told me to wear an old pair, but there's no way they would let you wear it if they were going to take it off. Why on earth would they want to have to take a pair of knickers off an unconscious obese person and then put them on again? That'd be hard work!
DiDi 0 Posted June 25, 2006 I asked about this very thing before & again after surgery. I was told they cover you up with sheets the areas they aren't working on. Funny the things we worry about. You know everyone in the OR has seen it before, but still!
gadgetlady 4 Posted June 25, 2006 I had my period on surgery day and wore the mesh underwear. They didn't take it off.
Loving-It 0 Posted June 25, 2006 I'm sure my gown came off too. I was out like everyone else so no skin off my nose. If they want to see me nekkid then hey, more power to them, I just hope nobody can sue me for therapy later! KIDDING!
BPM 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Ummm...what's the catheter for? Excuse my ignorance of the subject.
