I have had a sleeve 11 months and had zero issues post op, but my cousin got hers 3 days ago and has started running a temp of 99.7. She has no other symptons of a leak but still it's worrisome since we are 2 hrs away from the surgeon. Did anyone else run temp for no reason? I have her here with me since surgery...now just worrying.

I'm an RN, and I have to tell you to call her surgeon and let him know. However, 99.7 is not unusual in the few days after any surgery. A fever is just your body's way of killing bacteria. Is she feeling bad? Does she have more pain than you think she should? Are any of her incisions red and hot? That's more of a sign of a problem such as an infection. If the fever doesn't go down soon, she should definitely be seen by a physician. But if you can call the surgeon, that would be the best way to go.

I ran a 99 for a few days after surgery. I was told this is normal as antibodies are released to help heal all the incision sites and that unless my temp got to 101 or above there was no concern unless I had other accompanying issues. Best bet always is to call the surgeon and ask what he or she would like you to do.

Thank you for replying...her recent temp was 100.5. I tried all the numbers I have and no one answered, guess I'll call the hospital. She isn't in pain and no other symptons at this point. The last 2 days she has some swelling above her eyes but that is all. Will monitor her and keep trying to reach surgeon.

I too ran a slight fever in the few days following surgery (99.6). Went away within 3 or 4 days after surgery.

I too had a slight fever for a couple of days post op -- but I'd still take her in anyway -- don't want to fool around with medical stuff. Keep us posted! Hugs!

I was told at my pre op class that it is normal to be in the 99 range, but if it went over 101 to go to the doctor or call the surgeon.

We just let it run, the surgeon said not to worry, it was normal to run fever but to call if it went over 101.5. It is down in the mornings and comes back in the pm, Strange, lol

Well sounds like its normal, I wouldn't know this is the first I've heard of this. Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will help a lot of folks out there. I hope your cousin gets over her fever quick. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
