Breast Cancer and VSG

Recommended Posts

Has anyone on here had the VSG after having breast cancer? I have had breast cancer, chemo, mastectomy, and reconstruction. I started taking a hormone therapy medication afterward and gained weight. Now I can't seem to get the weight off, so I have scheduled my VSG for April 8th. My plastic surgeon didn't do a very good job on my new boobs, so now with the extra weight they even look worse. I am hoping to lose my extra weight and have my boobs redone.

I was just wondering if anyone else has any of the same problems? Jen

First of all can I say well done you for deciding on the sleeve after everything you've been through!

I know its not comparable to your situation but I just thought I would mention I've had breast surgery (reduction-for medical reasons) about 8 years ago. After that I had a 3rd child ,breast fed, put on loads of weight, had my sleeve almost 8 months ago and lost quite a lot of weight in the last year (about 65lbs) Needless to say my boobs are a mess, deflated, saggy, not a nice sight. I plan to have them done in december when I get my TT done, seeing as I've done all the hard work I might as well get everything sorted out!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Jen Jen -- there is a poster on Thinner Times called "shiver", she is a VSG and a breast cancer survivor. She is also awesome, you should PM her on there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
