Hi everyone: I fly to San Diego tomorrow for my surgery with Dr. Kelly in Mexico. My question is: Has anyone taken their cpap/bipap/vpap with them on a flight? And if so, did you carry it or check it? They want me to bring mine, and it does have its' own little backpack it fits in - at least I think so - I have not had it very long. I am a bit nervous about the surgery, but it is the best choice for me - for once in a very long time I am doing something for myself - Full Speed Ahead!! Thanks for any advice you can give me. Jean

I have put my cpap in my checked luggage. Its carrying case is small enough go carry on, but I usually reserve that space for other stuff. You could do it either way I suppose.

I was anxious and embarassed the first time I ever took my CPAP with me. I got over it really quick. They are only interested in the machine itself, not the mask or tubing. If you put it in your carry on luggage, be prepared to slip it out and put it in a bin by itself. Sometimes they remove it and scan it with the little cloth that detects the explosives, but most of the time it just goes right on through the Xray and I pick it up on the other side. Good luck

When I got mine, it was recommended that I take it carry-on because they can really toss the luggage around and it could possibly get damaged unless it's awfully well padded. As mentioned above, if you carry it on it's treated pretty much like a laptop - just take it out of the case. In my experience, the security folks knew what it was and acted as though it was routine.
