PROTEIN SHAKE QUESTIONS

Recommended Posts

PLEASE HELP

I'm 6 weeks out and before surgery, i could take the shakes with no problems(taste, amount etc), but now they taste horrible, and make me slightly queasy.

I have used GNC Isopure, and muscle milk lite, tried all flavors.

i have some isopure unflavored powder, and that's not too bad, but still has the aftertaste.

anyone else have this problem?

Is there something better?

lost 53# so far and couldn't be happier.

Dave

Hey Dave, congrats on the 53lbs. What helped me was I would add Decaf. coffee to my Protein shakes it changed the flavor and helped with the queasy. Your tastes buds usually change after surgery, so maybe try a different brand I loved the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein Powder and the whey unflavored from GNC. Hang in there!

It seems that the taste of a lot of things change after surgery. I don't know if it when they put you to sleep or what . I loved yogurt to death. After surgery I can hardly stand any milk products they just taste different to me.. Have you ever tried the wheybolic ampflified extreme 60 from GNC? ? It is the best Protein that I have ever drinked. I use the choclate and I have never had any issues before or after surgery. Also there are soy Proteins and a couple others that arent milk based. good luck and hopefully you will find a protein you can drink..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
