Cold Drinks/Food

Recommended Posts

I've read several people say how cold foods and drinks really don't set well with them or cause stomach spasms. I am just curious if this is something that has continued to be the case for you or is it something that went away after a couple months?

I am 8 months out and I still have a problem with cold liquids they make me ill this includes shakes, puddings, yogaurt, frosty's, etc and it doesn't take much for me to feel the effects.

I can drink Protein shakes room temperature and that's how I also always have had my Water. I don't know if it's stomach spasms but this group of liquidy solids causes problems for me and often cause sliming even in the smallest amounts.

Granted some of these i'm not supposed to be having but I have tried to indulge and then learned my lesson, hope this helps.

I haven't noticed that at all. I don't gulp down cold drinks in huge quantities, but sipping on a smoothie or having ice cream doesn't seem to bother me.

From the begining I've always toleraded ice cold smoothies and any drinks in generAL. I don't gulp them dow even 8 months out. Strange how our bodies/ stomachs all behave differently after surgery, isn't it?

I can drink anything in any temperature, and though the thickness/foaminess of a Protein Shake is not something I enjoy, I can even drink that without difficulty.

This is so good to hear! There's nothing I like better than an icy cold drink. Hopefully I will be able to tolerate them afterwards.

I was the opposite. Warm drinks made me feel like I was going to throw up. Also, I noticed when I had indigestion ice cold beverages helped me belch. Don't know why, but they did. Maybe the spasms pushed the gas up.

I'm about 6 weeks out now and can just barely tolerate cool items. I try to avoid ice like it's the plague. Cold causes me pain/nausea.

In the early weeks after surgery, warm/hot drinks were better. I still drink hot coffee first thing in the morning as it seems like it helps my stomach relax (probably all in my mind...). But after that first cup of coffee, I am fine. I prefer ice in my Water and my drinks and I don't have any problem with it at all.

Only thing that bothers me about cold drinks is that I feel it going down my esophagus and into my stomach. Its a weird sensation for me. But no pain or other aversion to the cold.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
