Transitioning from full liquids to pureed/soft foods!

Recommended Posts

Can you guys share with me some of the first pureed or soft foods you had eaten once you had come off of the full liquid diet. There seems to be some discrepancies between what the nutritionist, my surgeon, and the list of foods they gave me they gave me to try. Thanks!!

Anything you can mash with a fork and as long as you can tolerate it. Check with your doctor first.

My Dr gave me this food list today for this phase of the diet:

pureed moist Protein - any meat (excluding red meat)

- chicken, fish, shrimp, crab, other seafood, pork, ham, turkey(no ground turkey)

Tofu and soy products such as Morning Star Farms and Bocca Burgers (pureed & moist)

Scrambled eggs (make sure eggs are moist)

Refried Beans and dried Beans (pinto, garbanzo, white, northern, etc)

Small curd cottage cheese

Low carb yogurt: choose a brand with less than 12 g of carbs

Creamy Peanut Butter

serving size 1 1/2 oz three times a day. Eat 3 meals per day, no snacking. Protein shakes count as a liquid, not a snack. They can be liquid between meals.

Cottage cheese, refried Beans, soft cheese, baked potatoes with sour cream, mashed potatoes, ricotta cheese, eggs--they KILLED my stomach though, yogurt, Peanut Butter, cream of wheat Cereal, grits, oatmeal and any pureed Soups, pudding, popscicles.

You can add dried nonfat milk to the soft foods to boost the Protein and it doesn't have the weird taste and smell that 'unflavored" (yeah right) Protein has......

I pureed my chicken then sprinkled cheese over it and baked it. Wasn;t too bad! If you puree chicken, be sure to add chicken broth.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
