Yes. My doctor tell us to go on a 7 day liquid diet before surgery. It supposely helps shink the fat around your stomach so its easier for the doctor to get your stomach.

But I think I really shinking your stomach size.

I drinking 64 oz of Water and 5-6 slim fasts per day, until my surgery date.

Its really hard me to do. :(

Do you have to go on a liquid diet 7days before your surgery?

I feel so bad. :(

Im having surgery on thursday and I have been cheating and eating all thought out my 7 day liquid diet.

Has this happen to anyone else?

Well you'll have to fess up to the doc and tell him. He'll either postpone th op or shrug it off.

Having said that I was chatting with two orderlies when I left the hospital both of which had GSV's, BOTH pigged out the NIGHT before surgery. They were deathly ill after surgery and both got constipated, so it might happen that way for you too if your doc says to go ahead.

AFAIK the purpose of the pre-op diet is to make one's liver shrink a little. Each surgeon provides a slightly different liver-shrinking diet, but the principle is similar. The liver is placed in proximity to the surgery areas and may obstruct the surgeon's access partly. So getting operated without the diet makes it slightly more difficult for your surgeon to work because the fattier, larger liver is in the way, and might be wounded somehow in the process. Consult your surgeon as to whether to postpone the operation or not. He might even give you an easier diet to adhere to! My surgeon gave me a 2 weeks diet diet that has almost no carbs and sugars at all (not even a single fruit), but contains a lot of proteins: tuna for Breakfast, chicken and salad for lunch, eggs for dinner etc. It's no walk in the park, but it might be easier to follow than gooey shake only for 7 days. Good luck.

Be careful!

If you see the thread down below titled Rock Bottom , Infernored just had the total heart break of having her surgery canceled after going in to the hospital, doing the bloodwork, and being ready. Her doctor saw that she had gained a couple of pounds and asked if she had eaten carbs. She told the truth and now has to wait . My heart HURTS for her!

Stay on your liquids until Thursday and know you will be eting things again some day, in a skinnier body.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
