Hi - I was a lap-band revision, so my weight at VSG surgery was low compared to others who have the VSG surgery. My BMI was 31.5 when I got the revision done. 2 weeks out and so far, so good.

Good luck!

Lara

For once in my life, I have control over my eating habits. I almost feel as if I purchased a "potion control" insurance policy. I don't really see it as weight loss surgery.

I love this!!!!

No way you are not too small. I think majority of the world thinks you have to be bedridden fat to consider WLS as an option. Some wait that long, others don't. You are good to go, and lucky you decided to do it now. You don't have a lot to lose, so your skin issues will be minimal at best. You will likely have better results than those who need to lose 200+ Lbs, and you will make your goal really quickly and you can be about your business and living your life.

I always did wish I would've had this option when I was smaller and not wasted 20 years of my life being so big...

Good luck to you!! I'm glad you have decided not to allow anyone else's decisions for you affect your decision for yourself.

You are an inspiration!! Thank you and I am going for it!!

I think you're doing the right thing. I'm your same BMI, get the same comments, and know this is for ME. I've over the naysayers bigtime. think of that next airline flight and how comfortable it will be!

Hello...

I am new here, I am scheduled with Dr Jose Rodriguez in Mexico on May 4. I am 5'0 and weigh 199, that puts me at a BMI of 38.9. Many of my friends and family keep commenting that they don't think I am "big"enough for this...Many failed diets...Input??

Kimmy,

I'm 5'3, and a "pleasantly plump" 210 lbs. My BMI is 36.5. I have bounced around from 125 to 298 for 16 years........no less than 6 times. Trust me when I say I have the stretch marks, the batwing skin, the tummy flap, the saddle bags, the inner thigh pouches, the sacks my boobs were once in.......ALL great little reminders of the roller coaster of weight gain and weight loss.

I'm 40 yrs old. My mom doesn't agree with the surgery, nobody close to me thinks of me as "that big", but I KNOW ME!!! I'm tired of fighting my weight, losing it, only to gain it all back again over a couple of years.

I'm doing this for ME, NOT for my mother and certainly not for anyone who doesn't see me as "that big".

I, I, I, I, and may I repeat again, I, ME, MYSELF am doing this so I, ME, MYSELF can bend over, run, breath, feel the muscles in my legs and stomach again, and LIVE LIVE LIVE and LAUGH without jiggling!!!!!!

If you know your body, and you've made this decision based on your own personal needs, then you are doing the right thing. NEVER NEVER NEVER let others influence you into something that isn't theirs to choose!~

I WISH YOU THE BEST! Keep posting!

AMEN Christal! Been told the same thing...I am not "that big"...whatever that means... but our stats are similar and I know exactly what you mean. My insurance won't pay until I get heavier and sicker (I am diabetic) and I won't wait. My PCP said this surgery will save my life so I don't care if others look at me and say I don't weigh enough, YET. What nonsense! I am self-paying and having my surgery on April 12. Good luck to all of us!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
