6 days post-op...and can I just tell you?

Recommended Posts

Six days post-op and I am feeling much better. No more second guessing my decision to have been sleeved. Still very sore and have the gas pains but much more manageable. Hang in there, my newly fellow sleevers! We're on our way to being our very best "ME."

I am 6 days post op today too. Today has been a turning point for me. I was hating what I had done, but today feel much better. I still am craving real food so badly though. Are you having this problem? I want to have bread or pizza or a baked potato so bad. Those were my favorite foods. I am not really hungry just head hungry. It is really bad. How do you cope with this?

We are two peas in a pod!! I made chicken and Dumplings for my family tonight and it was very hard. I have also begun to realize just how many food commercials there actually are. No wonder we are the most obese country in the world! I'm ashamed of our food industry in America.

SF popsicles are my only saving grace!!

I have to say that my day started out so well when I started this thread, but then a few hours later I was feeling pretty bad. After a couple of more hours and a nap I was feeling better. I am extremely sore tonight. May have overdone it it today. :(

I am the same way. I went back to work today for the sole purpose of getting away from the food in my house. I am very grumpy, actually I am more of a "B". my husband and daughter went into the pantry tonight to eat their chips because I was so mad I couldn't have any, and how dare they eat it in front of me. I feel like I am a crazy person when it comes to food. I was fine until I got home and had to start worrying about what to make everyone for dinner. That's when it gets really bad. I know I can not cheat in fear I will really hurt myself. I tell you I actually licked a saltine cracker just to get the taste in my mouth and then threw it away. I think I'm going nuts!!

OMG...I chewed a pastiachio nut then spit it out. Just wanted the flavor too!! We have just got to get it together, sister. This monkey on our back is quite the fighter! WE CAN DO THIS!!! I think once we get to soft foods we will feel more satisfied and this too shall pass. Yes, it will require re-brain washing ourselves, but we can do it!!

I'm day 6 too!

My saving grace has been some V8 juice. Salty! I can only handle about 2oz at a time but it really helps when I'm craving the taste of things.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
