Sneak hell, I'm bringing a stash! ROFL

You just wait, woman! When you're next door begging for ice chips, I'm coming to your rescue with a baggie of ice cubes and telling you to lick it like a salt lick! LOL

xoxo Renee`

DayDreamer you just totally made my day! I'll be crossing my fingers for this to be my luck. I'll wake up and there will be a coffee sitting on the tray in front of me. WOOT!

How long after surgery do we need to worry about getting an ulcer? Is it a forever thing? I was under the assumption once we fully healed 1 year +\- that leaks and ulcers were rare?!?!?!?

I am hoping for at least one cup of REAL caffeinated coffee in the morning...one cup won't dehydrate me but no cups of coffee could be ugly and dangerous!

I may have to bring my T-shirt to the hospital, it says ...."I DRINK COFFEE FOR YOUR PROTECTION!"

I concur that most of the warnings from Docs have to do with dehydration, so drink Water. I started on coffee (half Decaf half regular) as soon as I came home, no problems, just not able to drink my pot a day, but I do drink about 2 big cups in the morning and I'm only two weeks post op. My diet said Decaf with Splenda was fine and I cheated buy mixing the decaf with regular (just need to make sure you are hydrated) although they did say something about irritating the healing stomach for the first month it was healing with any caffeine. As for the Booze, well I had my fist scotch tonight. Couldn't finish it but it did taste good and did not cause any problems. In hindsight I didn't even get buzzed so it was a waste and would have been better off without it. Most of the post I've read from 9 month plusers say it's business as usual, you just can't tolerate as much. Looking forward to a beer, but know that there's just not much room down there for much of it anymore, so I'll go from a 6 pack plus, to nursing one or two, and I'm OK with that.

i had my first non Decaf coffee this week and i am 6 wks out...it was iced coffee, with skim milk and tons of ice...so i figured it couldnt be that bad....still haven't had liquor yet

i am making my popular white wine sangria for an annual bbq this weekend, I wonder if I will be able to pass it up

My doctor says coffee is not a problem. I started with my one cup in the morning at two weeks. Now, I don't make mine very strong at all.

I still drink coffee without problems. I couldn't hold my liquor before and its worse now. I usually don't drink because of the calories but I have and I keep loosing.

I had 2-3 ounces of beer one evening and got buzzed! No other side effects - except I was thirsty.

I had the same experience when I sipped 1 or 2 tablespoons of fine tequila. The world became a wonderful place full of lovely people. I am officially a cheap drunk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
