Something INteresting at Support Group Meeting

Recommended Posts

So, I am now TWO WEEKS AWAY from my paperwork being submitted to Aetna. The closer it gets, the more excited and NERVOUS I am. But any kind of surgery makes me EXTREMELY nervous, so I know it's not second thoughts.

My surgeon's office has now started a support group exclusively for Sleeve patients. I went to their first meeting last Tuesday night and it was so interesting. There were lap banders considering the revision to sleeve, people doing their insurance program like me, a guy only 2 weeks out, and another guy 1 year out. And lots of people in between 2 weeks and a year out from surgery. When they all talked about the ups and downs post-surgery, they talked a lot about getting in Protein shakes immediately afterward, gas pain, hating the chewable Vitamins, etc., etc. But one thing I never heard anyone say was that they missed their favorite foods. I was so relieved to hear that because I wondered if I would struggle with cravings and have a hard time staying away from those foods. I feel VERY encouraged by that.

Its so great that you have a meeting like that just for sleeves! My meeting is RNY only, and very nice people, but I would love it if we had a sleeve meeting. Oh and by the way, I love my sleeve.....

I too wish we had a support group for just sleevers, but we get lumped in with the RNYers. It's okay, and I've only met one other sleever at support group (been sleeved almost 5 months).

I really don't miss my old way of eating and I absolutely adore that I can be full on such tiny portions. I truly think that the biggest part of the success of the sleeve is directly linked to the loss of ghrelin. I could easily defeat my WL efforts by eating Cookies, candy and ice cream. But I truly want to make this a success.

Now my husband was just sleeved 2 weeks ago. He is on mushies but the notes from our surgeon extremely limit the choices of mushies. He is really missing food right now. I hope it is temporary. ;)

Our sleeve group is new and has just met 3 times---once/month. It is GREAT. It is the most encouraging, upbeat program. I'm awaiting my date and love this forum!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but not ALL sleevers loose their hunger. One on my lovely SoCal sleevers warriors is over a year out and still struggles with the hungries. Rare, but it can happen. At 6 months out I still forget to eat/drink. food is now another type of battle. Crazy to this this former girl who lived to eat a lot now can easily walk past a buffet without remorse.

I love my sleeve and have no regrets. Good luck to you!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
