so i have a question about Vitamins. what Vitamins do you take?

my information says to take a multi Vitamin with minerals like flinstone complete, Vitamin D, Calcium (carbonate or citrate), and a b-12 sublingual.

i have the flinstone complete and viactiv plus d, however, i can not seem to find the sublingual b-12. do i need to go to GNC to get these?

i am confused.

thanks!

kelly

I take Celebrate multiviatmins and my doctor said that I wouldn't have to take a b-12 sublingual. I had my blood work done last week and I will update to see if I have a any Vitamin issues.

I do take calicum citrate it is the most absorbable type. Carbonate will not absorb in sleeve patients..the calicum you are using is cabonate. I know it really suck because there is items containing carbonate every where and it is really cheap. If you feel like you need a b-12 sublingual you can get it at GNC really cheap..

thanks for the advice. my booklet says carbonate or citrate are fine. i will have to ask my dr. or nutritionist again when i see them.

i guess all dr.'s have different ideas. maybe that is why they say viactiv is o.k. i mean if it is not, i can get something else, i just wish the information they give was accurate. i also like the idea that with that chewable, it takes care of the Calcium and d all in one.

thanks again,

kelly

B12 sub-lingual should be available at Walmart or Walgreens or USA. The reason for the sub=lingual is that it is normally largely adsorbed in the stomach and since we not longer HAVE much of a stomach it doesn't work well in a tablet. The sub-lingual simply dissolve in your mouth quickly and adsorb through the delicate thin mouth tissues.

I would STRONGLY advise against Calcium CARBONATE in favor of calcium citrate. C. CARBONATE is like TUMS or Rolaids and daily use may contribute to very painful kidney stones. I found this out the hard way :(.

B-12 sublingual is not an expensive one, usually. I got mine from Celebrate's online. calcium citrate chews I got from Bariatric Advantage. The multi's are a chewable from trader joes and I love them. It tastes like a giant Flintstones. I also take a B-1, or thiamin that I got at Whole Foods Market. This is all on top of my synthroid and antidepressant.

Good luck! And Good HEALTH!:D

The Bariatric Advantage Lemon and Raspberry calcium chews are good, like having a star burst almost. My Doctor's office recommended the Bariatric Advantage Multi Vitamin Crystals that mix in your Water. I haven't tried the crystals yet but they come in a berry flavor I guess.

I am totally not being snarky by any means, but there is a load of information on here in the forum for vitamins:

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/79-vitamins-supplements/

Also I order my B-12 sublingual (under the tongue drops) at Puritan Pride 2-2 oz bottles for $9.99.

http://www.puritan.com/b-12-vitamins-343/vitamin-b-complex-sublingual-liquid-with-vitamin-b-12-002871?NewPage=1

Also I got my lab work back yesterday, and my Vitamin D levels were a 10.1, normal is 40-100. I have to take high dose Vitamin D before my surgery. So don't be shocked when 'if' you find out the same info. Most people are deficient, esp. among heavier people. Here is a good video to watch about it ( I love her and ProofWLSWorks on Youtube, loads of info and support!):

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
