Am I going to be bald?

Recommended Posts

Ok: how much hair do we lose? All of it? Some of it? Patches? Do I need to buy a wig?

I am starting to get concerned because it started like my Spring molt starts every year. But, now: it is horrible! Handfuls of hair come out in the shower, after the shower, drying my hair... I have always had very thick hair. The thought of being bald makes me very nervous.

Also, what did others do? Did you cut it? Did Biotin make your hair grow other places? (not interested in a beard...)

It's temporary and it grows back. Here's a few topics on hair loss with others experiences.

I personally lost half of my hair by volume. I too had thick, very coarse hair pre-op. I chopped it off, added hoards of layers to give the illusion of volume once the shedding stopped. Mine lasted a solid 3 months, but I had new growth coming in before the shedding stopped. Biotin helps with regrowth, I don't know about growing hair in other places because I never took it. My hair is almost back to it's pre-op volume, and it's extremely healthy. Stressing over it is only going to make it worse.

You really are a wealth of knowledge, you are much appreciated, in case you didn't already know that Tiffykins.

Probably not. I had lovely thick hair. I am six months out and still losing. When I brush it, it comes out. I tend to wash it only once or twice a week after a workout where I sweat a lot. hair in food, on all my clothes, sheets, carpets, etc.

Better to buy a wig than another ((&^&U body shaper that never hid my fat anyways. Remember, it does grow back and I have yet to meet someone with a "high forehead" like my husband. :P

If your hair is thick you should be fine. My hair is very thin, but had a lot of it. I'm 6 1/2 months out and have lost A LOT of it. I purchased clip in hair extensions to make it fuller (as seen in my profile picture). And have hair product to make it seem thicker. Others have cut their hair to a short do and it actually looks super cute.

From what I hear, it does grow back, and in the big picture of it all IT IS TOTALLY WORTH IT :)

I have thick hair and noticed it falling out about month 4... it started to get embarrasing because It would fall out at work... I used it as an excuse to try a short hair-doo and have had loads of compliments! It does stop falling out but my hair was so long I was leaving a hair trail where-ever I go.... I love it now because people I haven't seen in months look at me and can't tell if it is the hair cut or the weight loss... sooo funny!

I never had bald batches it seemed to fall out evenly...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
