t-salt 1 Posted March 17, 2011 Well here I am on day two still trying to get the gas out. Not doing to bad as long as I take pain meds regularly. Not getting enough fluids but slowly getting that up to where I should be in the next couple of days.Yesterday after I got home I got a severe case of hic-ups. Has anyone else experienced this. The Dr. did fix a hiatal hernia when he was in there.
Rootman 1,101 Posted March 17, 2011 Yeah, got nasty vicious hic-ups that felt like they were going to turn my stomach inside out. The nerves in the stomach are disturbed - actually more like CUT OFF and for some reason the diaphragm interprets that as a need to hic-up. I used to get them regularly when I ate to fast and still do occasionally when I push the boundaries and eat a bite or two more than I should.
fern 195 Posted March 17, 2011 Yup. Hated them. I said something to my doctor and he said that because they were working around the diaphram that it could cause hiccups. I found warm liquids sometimes helped.
AutumnLily 77 Posted March 17, 2011 Yes they are my signal that I am full. For me they only last for a half hour to an hour and then they subside.
vickie 3 Posted March 17, 2011 Yes I got the hiccups 2 days after surgery and thought this can't be good. But it was fine. Now I get them when I eat to fast.
Vance 0 Posted March 18, 2011 I also had the hic-ups but they came in short runs of 3 or 4 and that was it. The first couple of days they went on my list of "things that hurt". Now they have slacked off and get them only once or twice a day. (9 days post-op) Spanner
