VSG revision and MGB reversal- Really need to talk

Recommended Posts

I had a VSG by Dr Alvarez in 2008, he used a large bougie... didnt lose the weight I needed...went in to see Dr Rutledge in Vegas last year and thought he would revise my VSG to make smaller and it was planned to do a small MGB. Unfortunately, he did the MGB and did not touch my stomach. As such I can eat tons of food and have terrible gas and diareahea all the time. I am going in for my last and final surgery in 1 month to reverse the MGB and have him revise and make smaller my stomach. I'm scared as this is my third surgery...and last I might add.

Can anyone comment about VSG revisions?

Blessings to you!

A MGB is a MINI Gastric Bypass you can google it and find out all about it...It is reversible. Not usre what size of Bougie Dr Alvarez used but he told me it was one of the larger sizes.

Thanks. My Doc used a loose 36. I think the common sizes are 32-60 french. My doc said that they are all pretty small and not that much difference in the sizes.

I thought Dr Alvarez was one of the drs using the smaller size bougie as in 32fr, even in 2008. I wonder why he decided to make yours bigger? Was it due to medical reasons? I have seen a lot of revisions from one procedure to another, but not necessarily 2 revisions within that short of an amount of time. I am very sorry you have had difficulties with the sleeve and now the MGB.

How did you do with the actual diet part of the surgery with eating Protein first and not filling up on "sliders" or carbs? Do you feel it was the sleeve being big and not slipping back into bad habits or emotional eating that failed to help you reach goal? Have you had any therapy relating to your eating? How much weight did you lose and how much more do you want to lose? I wish you luck with everything, please update us on what you decided to do!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
